They are hybrids(?). In this AU that some people have a "animal spirit". This means when fully matured you can shift into that "animal spirit". What animal you get is based on genetics. Herbivores are more common then carnivores or omnivores. Until maturing you can't fully shape shift and can almost pass as human (humans do exist, a separate society from these bbs). Around 5-9 you get your animal features (example; new ears, tail, animal fur/scales/feathers).
Let me tell you what each characters animals are (I asked FlowerTord to give me 4 random animals to work with). Edd is a Giant Panda, really was debating on making him a Quailing Panda but I settled with the classic. Matt is a Blanc De Hotot, I wanted a endangered rabbit species because it would make Matt feel more "superior". Tord is a Silver Fox, I was going to make him an Island Fox but that's when I found that Russians where once trying to make attack foxes out of Silver Foxes. Tom is an Alexander Archipelago wolf, I saw that the breed was very fluffy and I said "yes, this is Tom now".
My mind is constantly trying to make AU's... i don't know why-
