“Who do you think you are!?”
“Wha-who do you think a-am I? I-I am Sheila?”
“That’s not what I mean, you idiot! I mean, who do you think you are to go against me in the upcoming SG election?!” Eden spat at her looking like she was daft.
“I’m sorry Eden. But I also want to run and expose my talent,” Sheila answered humbly.
“Expose the talent you’ve got? Don’t dare do it if you’re not prepared for the results! You might be surprised Sheila. Never, ever challenged me! Don’t cross my way, girl!”
That was Eden. She is the most beautiful, most intelligent, most talented and highly respected but the most boastful and conceited student among their class. She is the one who often got the medal and awards. She grew up with gold in her spoon, getting anything and whatever she wants. One word from her Dad, her wishes will then be fulfilled. A request from her Mom, what she wants will be accomplished. So, whoever crosses her way will surely be pitiful. She has never been a loser. She’s always the winner and everybody knows that.
Now the day has come for the election. Everybody is excited. Who could be the winner? Some had presuppositions already. Who would it be, but of course-
“Eden!”
“Yes?” Eden mockingly answered.
"We've voted for you!" The students beamed in excitement.
“What? I can’t hear it,” she said annoyingly. Unruly students, just doesn’t know how to keep quiet, she thought.
“Okay students, tidy up! We’ve got the results ready! And now ladies and gentlemen, this school year 2010–2011 SG President, a senior high school student candidate without an opponent, Eden Villanueva!”
“Go Eden! Go! Viva Eden! Viva!” the students shouted. She was then called out to give a speech.
“Thank you my fellow students! I’ll surely do my best to serve you. Hope we will all have an enjoyable school year together. We can make it!” Eden said to the crowd.
“It’s me again – the winner. I’m always is. Well, thanks for the support gals. I’ll treat you out tomorrow night. See yah!”
The votes were not really needed but it's a protocol. Well, she won. She’ll always be. Sheila knew better than to cross her path.
On the other hand, Sheila, although from a poor family strives hard to reach her goals. She is a promising student. She could have won but is always hindered by Eden. But she never stops wishing that one day she could also shine.
Sheila is also beautiful and intelligent. Though she’s only the second honor in their class, her best friends, Anna, Christy and Shaira always think that she’s the top. They all believed that Eden only succeeds for being the always first because she has the money.
The next week in their class something unexpected happened but her three best friends always believed would happen. Usually, their Physics teacher comes late to their class, empty handed. But when they came in, he was already seated with their Prelim Examination Papers in his hands.
“Oh, no! My prelim examinations are very poor. Let it be not in this class,” Anna said in horror, earning a laugh from them.
“Don’t worry Anna. You can still pull it up in the Midterms. You can always do well next time.” Sheila comforted Anna.
“Okay class, settle down! I’m very satisfied with your Prelim results. Luckily all of you in this class passed the exam. I’m also very proud that the highest among the six sections in my class is from this group too. The perfect score should be 85 but since we’ve agreed that the highest score shall be considered the perfect score you all passed. The highest score is 80 and it has only a little difference from the perfect score. The second highest is also from this class and she got 74.”
