It happened again! I published this chapter yesterday, but it didn't get through! Darn it! I even did it in the morning! Well, here's to hoping it comes through this time...
A single operative slid through the night, heading for the base. In her belt were the usual weapons, as well as a couple of red microchips.
Sarah checked the map on her arm again, but she didn't need to. The route to the terrorist base was burned in her memory.
Sarah reached a checkpoint, and looked up. After a moment, the usually red signal light of the building she was perched on flashed green once, a signal from the base. She smiled, and moved on.
Progress was quick, and Sarah encountered no difficulty as she headed to the outskirts of the city.
Then, finally, she reached her first main obstacle.
Wrapping all the way around the city, acting as a divider to show territory limits, was a tall wall, with a track mounted on top.
Sarah looked around, and noted the cameras stationed all around, as well as a couple human guards. Looking down, Sarah could see that the archways that allowed cars to pass through glowed with a faint blue light, a scanner searching for unauthorized personnel like thieves, that they did not want to let through for the safety of the city.
This was the most difficult part of the entire route, but if the terrorists could get through unnoticed, Sarah was sure she could accomplish it too.
Sarah grabbed special binoculars, and put them to her eyes, turning on the function Christopher had programmed into them. Suddenly, the view became almost unrecognizable. Gone was the gleaming metal, replaced by a color-coded view of all the technology in the vicinity.
Sarah applied multiple layers of filters, until finally the hundreds of consoles vanished, and she was left only with the technology of the bridge. But as she scanned the entire stretch, her heart sank. The security was way too tight!
Sarah stared in anxiety at the wall, feeling her hopes slip away. And then, a thought occurred to her.
She grinned. "Why didn't I think of that before!"
Sarah, dressed in civilian clothes, scanned her ID at a car-port, and a hovercar slid up, opening the doors so Sarah could board.
She quickly selected a location near the terrorist base, and she car whizzed off, heading for the bridge. Sarah sat calmly munching on some crackers as she passed through the gate, completely ordinary. And when she got out on the other side, the car unsuspectingly pulled away.
Sarah chuckled. "Perfect!" And she strolled off to find a suitable alley to change in.
A few minutes later, Sarah lay on the edge of a building, peeking out into the dark alley below. She was once again masked, her tools all back in her belt. Pulling out her binoculars, she activated the heat signature function, once again putting the binoculars to her eyes. Faintly, she could see wavering heat signatures a few stories underground, undetectable by anything but a dragon enhanced device. She grinned. "Gotcha!"
Pressing her earpiece, Sarah activated the transmission line. "Status report?" Hiccup's voice came over the line. "I'm right above them." Sarah said in a low voice, "how do I get in?"
There was a faint chatter over the line as Hiccup discussed with Christopher, and then he returned. "Wait for a few minutes. There is an operative coming with a shipment of bombs, and you should be able to sneak in behind them."
Sarah nodded. "Got it."
She waited, and about five minutes later, Hiccup's voice reappeared. "They're getting close. Be on guard." Sarah tensed up, and in seconds, there was a faint buzzing.
