After spraying perfume on, I stare at my appearance in my wall mirror. I managed to finish getting ready under an hour. My brown hair falls down my back and there is not one strand out of place. My makeup this evening is low-key simple even with the sharp liner and bold eyebrows. With luscious lips, my striking eye make up and my gorgeous dress, I know I look stunning. Banm baby!
I grab my purse and head to the garage. Dodo, an older man I hired to look after the property, instantly runs to grab my key. "Madam, would you like for me to drive you today?"
I reply softly. "Yes please." I give him instruction to stop by to get my assistant on the way to the event. Mrs. Sarah did not disappoint, she came out of her condo, looking like a modern Maleficent. Her hair was now black and styled in a bob. She had on a skin tight latex dress that covered her arms and stopped at her knees. She accessorized with a fur jacket and really weird, goth jewelries but it looks good with her. But her statement piece was actually the sneaker heels she had on. God damn, I'm keeping her.
Dodo, who was also speechless opens the door for her and off we went. I don't scream girl power but the energy we created in the backseat was beautiful. It warms my heart. That's what fashion is about, confidence, the energy you put out into the world.
"I think I might just keep you." My last assistant, Desra was fired because she couldn't keep her mouth shut and her head down when she needed too.
Sarah on the other hand might be the one I have been looking for. She blushes shyly.
She makes a gesture to her outfit and her makeup which was pretty alien with shades or green and blue and crystals."This is who I am." She declares.
"And I like it."
By the time we arrived at our location, we had already went over everything we needed to know about whoever was going to be there from what who they usually fuck in the weekends to their bank accounts. Even as we enter the festive venue, we keep in mind that this isn't pleasure. We're here about business.
I enter the venue and loud chatters quickly fills my ears. Sarah follows close behind me and keeps an eye out as I instructed her to. I quickly began to recognize a few faces from social media gurus to fashion icons. Ah yes.....
The room was large with a stage that is hidden by a reflective glass. I can pretty guess what's hidden there. There was tables in the middle of the room. They were occupied so we went to the open bar. As I order my drink, a vodka martini with 1 olive and 1 lime, my phone alerts me that I have a new message.
I draw it out of my purse.
"Ms. Valentino, please get in contact with us as soon as possible." My heart drops. Was is a huge mistake ignoring the first message? I smile despite my inner turmoil and excuse myself. Sarah nods and wink, silently telling me that she will take care of things until I'm back. My feet shakes slightly as I hurry to the bathroom. After closing myself in a stall, I search through my contacts.
Vladimir, I clicked call. The phone rings, and rings until it beeps. Something must be wrong, he always answers. I call a second time, hoping that it's something minor. But I knew from the bottom of my heart that it was not. The phone rings again but no answer. I sigh and decide to go back for what I came here for. I will handle my mother later. I rinse my hands and walk out.
As I approach the bar, someone suddenly bumps into me. My defenses instinctively goes up. I snap my head up and glare...into the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. My breath is literally knocked out of me as I stare into the man.
"Oops," I say shyly as I bend to pick up my purse. What's wrong with me? I'm not shy. But the man was so gorgeous, he was wearing a white dress shirt with black slacks and black shoes. His hair was braided in cornrows, and he smelled really fucking good. He bends down first to get my purse. When he comes back up, I really see his face. He had an irritated look, like he didn't want to be here. One thing that really caught my attention was the scar near his left eye.
He holds my eye. "Careful." That's all he said to me and he sidestep me and continue on his way. What was that?
Seriously Jade, what was that? I can't be distracted,
the voice in my head tells me. I'm here for a reason, aren't I? Yes,so I quickly gather myself and go to find m assistant. By the time I got to the tables she picked for us, they already revealed the auction items. The ocean's heart, a painting of Abraham Lincoln, a very valuable witchy necklace and the dress.I breath out and place my hand on my thigh. Sarah is inpatient next to me. After they sold everything else, they finally reach our dress. Everyone gasps, it's beautiful. The fabric, I can tell from where I'm sitting, is very expensive. It's a light blue mermaid dress decorated with crystals and feathers. Every detail was stitched to the right places. It's a dress that demands attention because it is simple but sophisticated. Sexy but classy.
The auctioneers starts to yell out prices.
At the end, I sign a contract of two million dollars. Sarah squeals and clasps her hands. She attracted looks everywhere she went no just with her attire but her personality as well. After the dealing with everything, we left. I finally let out a sight of relief as we get in the car. We talk and laugh about it until she arrives."I'll see you at the office, Miss." she said as she walks away from the car.
"Yes Sarah, good job." I thank her for her service and instruct Dodo to drive me to SIM MENTAL INSTITUTE. He offers to walk me in when we arrive. He knows how hard this was for me, he's a sweet soul. I smile but softly decline.
"I will do this alone, thank you."
I enter the building and address the receptionist.
"Suite 02, class A." She smiles warmly to welcome me and taps away on her computer. A frown slowly falls upon her face.
"M-Ms, Valentino?"
"Yes?" My hands starts to sweat. She lifts her eyes and shoot me through the heart.
"I'm sorry to inform you....."
No.
