When the clock strikes midnight

Started this last year for New Years. Decided to finish it and publish it. Hope you like it.

(Normal Pov)

Amy Rose was getting ready for the New Years party her friend Rouge organized. She was currently in her room with her best friend Cream. She was waiting for the hedgehog to pick something out.

"Hurry up Amy. We will be late" said the little rabbit, in her squeaky voice.

"I'm trying!" Shouted Amy, as she threw out another pair of clothes from her closet. She kept doing this for the next couple of minutes. "FOUND IT!" yelled Amy, as she stood with a black dress with red around her breast, with a red ribbon at her waist.

Cream looked at her friend and smiled, "You will look great in this Amy!" the rabbit said all excited.

Amy smiled and went to her bathroom. She quickly got changed into the dress and put her hair in a pony tail. Her bangs covering her left eye. She came out and Cream was holding a pair of black dolly shoes. Amy took them with a smile and placed them on her feet. With the both girls ready, they left Amy's house and headed to Rouge's club.

After a short walk through the park and the city, they both reached Club Rouge. The music was loud and the lights were flickering from inside the club. Amy opened the door and saw all her friends already there, her and Cream walked in and closed the club's door.

The whole club was filled with people dancing and having some drinks, Cream left Amy as she walked to Tails and the Chaotix team. Amy was standing all alone, everyone was either dancing with a partner or talking in their little groups where she didn't fit in.

Amy was leaning against one of the walls, the clock slowly ticking towards midnight. Only ten minutes away from a new year. She was holding a drink in her left hand, slowly moving the glass around. This was the most fascinating thing right now, since there was nothing better the Sakura hedgehog could do.

"Hello Rose" said Shadow, as he approached Amy. He had a drink in his hand, and drank some of it as he stopped before her.

"Hi Shadow" she said, getting a little happier. She had someone to talk to, and a way to spend this new years.

Shadow and Amy were talking for a short while, catching up with one another. They haven't spoke with each other for a couple of months. Due to Shadow's mission with G.U.N. Amy told him about all of her failed attempts with Sonic, and how finally she gave up on him. While telling him that some tears came up to her eyes, she was still heartbroken after Sonic and Sally dated again.

Before Shadow could say anything, Amy cut him off. Explaining how she is happy for them and that she doesn't need a lecture of 'Stop being a kid and grow up'. She kept on talking, getting more muddled up on what she wanted to say. Shadow had to pick up a small snack off the table and put in her mouth, making her stop and eat the biscuit instead.

"Sorry, I just didn't want you to think less of me" she said, looking at the ground a little embarrassed.

"I don't" said Shadow, as he managed a small smile.

Amy looked up at Shadow and smiled back, her eyes then noticed the clock behind him. There was only 4 short minutes left until midnight. Just 4 short minutes. Her smile slowly faded and her eyes lost the sparkle she had when speaking with Shadow.

The black hedgehog picked up on the sudden change of the sakura hedgehog's mood. Placing his empty glass on the table he reached for her shoulder, resting his hand gently on it.

"Are you okay?" he said quietly, his voice almost blocked out by the loud music but Amy still heard him.

She heard him and only him, the music seemed to be far away and it felt like they were alone. Even though she knew they weren't.

"Yeah...I'm fine...It's just that I realised I won't have a kiss for midnight" Amy said softly but loudly for him to hear her over the music, her eyes drift to Sonic for a couple of seconds before they land back on Shadow. A small smile forced on her lips.

Shadow picking up on whats bothering Amy, looks at the clock to see 3 minutes...2 minutes remaining to midnight. As his eyes leave the clock, they travel to Sonic who is dancing with Sally. The sakura hedgehog wanted a midnight kiss with the fastest thing alive but instead gets to see Sally get it instead.

There was nothing he could do but watch the beautiful pink hedgehog force a smile and pretend everything is alright.

Beautiful.

He couldn't hide it anymore. She was beautiful to him, kind, loving and supportive. She is to him, what Sonic is to her. He fell in love with her.

"Im over him" these words brought Shadow back, he looked at the her with a confused look.

"Im over him, I just envy that he gets a midnight kiss and I don't."
