Well, thought Reina, that's one way out of crime. She sighed and looked around her cell, bored out of her mind. No one around had bothered to talk to her since taking her information. Reina insisted she had no one to call to bail her out, but the police wanted to check the records at least. The one in the room took a pitied glance at her and started rummaging around his desk.
"You like to draw?" he asked her, holding up some paper and a pen. Reina nodded with a small grunt, not bothering to look over. She uncrossed her arms as he slid the utensils into her section of the room. Grabbing them, she muttered a small thanks, relieved she would have something to do until they confirmed no one was coming on her behalf. Over an hour of mindless doodling later, another police officer came in, escorting two men into the station, one of whom she never expected to see again.
"Miss Yamada's closest relative is here, sir," the man announced. A little startled, Reina looked down at her outfit, hoping desperately to look like anyone but herself. Her blonde hair that faded out into a deep red. A crop top, jacket, and mini skirt, again all varying shades of red, and some platform boots. Yeah, there was no way she could do this. The man in question, looking a lot more casual than he normally would go for, walked further in. Hizashi Yamada, otherwise known as Present Mic. While Reina didn't personally know the other guy, there was no mistaking him. Pro hero Eraserhead. God, if he really was here to take her "back", it would be an awfully uncomfortable ride to wherever she'd be going.
The room was silent for a while as Hizashi and Reina just stood there, on opposite sides of the cell wall. Well, he was standing. She was sat on the bed, after catching eye contact with him once she refused to do so again. She couldn't tell what he was thinking, which frustrated her. He should be disappointed, he should hate her guts for the way she turned out in comparison to him. Thre was a time Reina looked up to him, wanting to be just like him, where'd those times go? It felt like just yesterday. There were no words spared between them, Hizashi Knew she wouldn't want to talk, especially not there. He wanted it to be when they could talk like equals, not as hero and villain. He walked over to the warden to discuss how much it would take to get here out and how they'd handle "setting her straight." Despite all of this, Eraserhead's eyes never strayed from her cell for too long, like he was eyeing a wild animal on the hunt for some prey. She at least wanted to try to turn over a new leaf, though she could see why it was so hard to trust her.
Leaving the station was a little more comfortable, especially after they removed the cuffs. She rubbed her wrists as she climbed in the back of the car. She wanted so bad to ask where they were going, to know a bit more of what was going on, but the words were stuck in the back of her throat. The air was tense as they began to drive through the countryside. No words were spoken between the three of them, though there were quite a few glances between the men in the front seat, and glances backwards at her. After a while, they pulled into a- school? Oh, Reina knew this school well. UA High, the school she found she could never make it in. She dropped out just shortly after her second year and was never seen again. Well, at least, not as Reina Yamada. From then on she chose to go simply by "Storyteller." A name that partially called here quirk into light, and was kinda cutesy at first, but soon was able to strike fear into the right people. She stiffened as the car stopped in front of the school, gulping as she finally had to get out, her brother and his friend (or at least that's what she assumed they were) looked back at her.
Eraserhead begrudgingly left them as they passed his class, muttering something about "knowing those kids had run off the substitute already." Hizashi snickered and moved on. Reina couldn't be comfortable walking through the halls, knowing she was once like these kids. She wondered how many more would end up like herself.
"So," Reina drawled, "where exactly are we going? You haven't really explained much, like, at all." Her brother only hummed in response, still leading her down the hallways. He only started to speak when they were in a more secluded part of the school.
"Well, Rei, I really want to help you out," he started, "I can tell you're really serious about this. However, I don't really have control over giving you a place to stay since I have to stay in the teachers' dorms." A teacher. Of course he is. "So, we're going to see Principal Nezu about it. He's already agreed to at least hear you out." Reina panicked at the idea of seeing her old principal again. It felt worse than seeing her brother again, Nezu believed in her when no one else did, to know she more than let him down hurt horribly. They continued to walk in silence, though the tension between them was altered slightly. How, neither was entirely sure, but they sure weren't planning on trying to confront it. Soon enough, they found themselves in from of his office. Hizashi knocked, and a small "come in" came from the room. Reina took a quick breath as her brother opened the door. Please, let this go smoothly.
"Ah, Present Mic, Storyteller, please have a seat," the small bear- rat? welcomed them into the room. Reina sat stiffly on the extremely comfortable chairs, practically shaking in her platform boots. "It's good to see you again, Storyteller. I'm very glad you've decided to come back and find your way." She gave an uncomfortable smile and tried hard to avoid eye contact.
"I'd prefer not to go by that name if you don't mind. It doesn't feel right anymore, especially for what I used it for." Nezu nodded and hummed to himself, organizing some papers on his desk. They sat in silence for a second, Reina gave a small smile to herself, it was kinda clear Nezu did not remember her name.
"Well, considering your background, it's most definitely controversial to take you in here Miss Yamada," Nezu began to explain. Reina cringed. There was no way he'd think it was a good idea to have her here, its too much of a risk. "However, many of our decisions at UA have been criticized, and everything turned out alright." A shot of hope coursed through her body.
"I have full faith that you want to turn yourself around, Miss Yamada," he continued, "but consider this a warning. You will be monitored very heavily. If you are proven to be in contact with the League of Villains, you will be removed from our campus."
"Of course, understood sir." Nezu gave a big smile, and Hizashi breathed a sigh of relief for his sister.
"Well, welcome back to UA, Reina Yamada. If you should like, we can try to help you reinstate your hero's license as well. The board will take a bit of convincing, however, but I believe it can be done." A real, genuine smile reached Reina's face for the first time in forever. The rest of the day was spent putting her into an empty teachers dorm that was slightly separated from the rest of the faculty. She had fairly little furniture in the room, but she was perfectly content with that. She sighed as she collapsed on the bed, a long day had passed by. From turning herself in, to meeting with her brother again, and finding out that she'd have a second chance, she needed a moment to breathe and take everything in.
She was not ready to see what happened in the following weeks as she worked to restore others' trust in her.
