Drops of water started falling from the sky. I hurriedly get my umbrella as the rain started to pour heavily. As I am waiting for the bus to arrive, I saw a girl standing beside me without an umbrella and wearing only a jacket.
I moved closer to her sharing my umbrella, "You might get sick." She looked at me and smiled saying, "Thank you."
As the bus arrived, she got in and so am I. I saw her sat near the window, put earphones on and stared blankly outside. I sat beside her without her even looking at me. I don't know why but I want to talk to her so I did. I fake a cough and, "You should always bring umbrella in case it will rain." She looked at me and nod then looked back at the window again. That's it? She didn't even say anything. So I tried again, "Let me guess, you're listening to some sad song while looking outside so it will look a little dramatic, right?" I smiled when I saw her laugh a little, "Of course not, I just want to relax my mind." We continue talking until she needs to go. But before she left, she said something that made me think, "See you again", smiled and left me alone wondering what she meant.
Days passed, we always met at the bus stop and sat beside each other. So that's what she meant by saying see you again. But what I don't understand is why she won't even give me her name. She just smiles then changes the topic.
Until one day, she invited me to have a breakfast at her favorite tapsilogan. She told me that this is place is where her parents met and when she was a child, her parents would always bring her here. She keeps on telling me stories while I'm sitting here, admiring her beauty. How her smile can give joy to me, her voice that I'll always want to hear and her eyes that makes me wish I can stare at it for the rest of my life.
I didn't notice that I'm almost late for my work so I bid my goodbye and what she said to me was least of my expectation. I thought she would say see you again like she always did but not today.
"Jacob", hearing her call my name sent shivers to me, I don't know why. How she look at me that tells me she wanna say something but stops herself from doing it. "Goodbye", then smiles at me weakly before running away. I ran after her but I can't find her anymore. She went away, leaving me so many questions in my head.
Everyday, at the same spot and time, I've always waited for her, wishing she'd show up but my wishes become useless. Months have passed, but there's still no sign of her.
As I am waiting for the bus to arrive, I noticed a girl wearing a bonnet looking at me. Her eyes seemed familiar and suddenly, she smiled at me. The smile I was longing for. She moved closer to me still wearing that favorite smile of mine.
"Hi", she greeted. "What happened to your hair?", I asked still puzzled. "Oh, I had a chemotherapy because of my leukemia." I can't utter a single word as I was in a state of shock. "What? You don't find me beautiful anymore?", she chuckled making my heart flutter. How I miss to hear her laugh. I held her chin and said, "You're beautiful as always. But why didn't you tell me?" She looked down, "I didn't thought I'll make it so I stopped myself from having a connection with you."
"Then shall we start anew?", I said.
"Hi m'lady. I'm Jacob."
"Hey, I'm Celestine. It's a pleasure to meet you."
