Oikawa tried to hold her hand but she pulled away "Aiko chan-"
"Oikawa! Stop following me! I can't do this anymore"
"But Aiko chan-"
"You never make time for me!"
"We went on a date just two days ag-"
"And then you just disappeared!" She complained "You never call, never text."
"But baby, I wouldn't mind if you called I always have time for y-"
"Wow, so now this is ALL my fault? That I should've called?? All my friends have amazing boyfriends, they keep talking about how nice they are and all I can do is sit and nod with a fake smile because YOU are never there"
"Fine..." he gave up because he thought that would make her feel a little better. But it just got worse.
"See!!? You know it too! And yet you never change!"
"I'm sorry, Aiko chan" he apologised and she scoffed.
"Baby-"
"If you can't do it I will" she said.
"Do what?"
"Give you a choice" she said "Me or volleyball!"
"AIKO CHAN!"
"What? Can't live without volleyball, can you? And what could you do there? You practiced for YEARS and still lost to Shiratorizawa EVERY SINGLE TIME. Don't run behind something you can never get and lose other precious things in the process"
He fell silent. That broke him more than it should have but his face didn't give away "So what now?" He asked.
"Can you give up volleyball for me?"
"Aiko chan-"
"Looks like you've made a choice" she smiled flatly "We're done here, goodbye"
"Aiko chan! Please I..." his voice croaked "I''m sorry"
"You'll never be as good as Ushiwaka"
Oikawa's eyes shot open, he sat upright only to reach for the water and turned all the lights of his room on, sitting before his computer to watch matches of their potential rival schools. But first, Shiratorizawa's. He knew how Ushiwaka played. He knew everything about him. How he jumped, how he spiked, how he preferred his tosses, all of it. He put his earphones on before tuning into the match. And with that he couldn't sleep anymore. Again.
Setsuki yawned putting her books away. She was done for the day. It was almost 2 am and when she headed back to her bed she saw the light from his room seep through his window. She moved to the edge of her window only to see him glued to the monitor.
'Does he ever sleep?' She sceptically thought before slowly closing the blinds.
It had been over two weeks since Aiko broke up with him but he was still not over it. Every day during practice he'd think about how his dedication to volleyball made his girlfriend leave.
He always had his 'silly facade' on to mask his worries. All everyone knew about Oikawa was that he was extremely cocky. When news spread about their breakup, people rushed to speak about how they knew he was always bound to put his own interests above anything and anyone else.
Setsuki saw him walk out of the gates of Aoba Johsai with his eyes glued to his feet.
"Oikawa san!" That was the first time she'd ever said his name.
He stopped when he heard the feminine voice call him "Tsuki... chan?" He cheered up a little when he saw her jog toward him.
"Ah, I'm sorry I couldn't give it to you sooner" she gave him his jacket back and his mood sombered when he realised she was only there to return his jacket and nothing more.
"It's okay" he just took it before turning back around to leave.
"Say..." she said "Are you upset about her?"
He sighed before strengthening his mind "Nothing you should know about"
"Sure? They seem to like talking about you" she didn't realise she was walking home with him.
"You can join them too" he refused to even look at her.
"Nah, I don't agree with them" she said.
"Hmm?" He thought he heard her wrong "And what do you think? That I'm worse? That I put my own interests before her? That I annoyed her so much she had to leave?"
"I don't see what's wrong with that" she mumbled and he swore he felt his heart jump.
"N-Nani?"
"Well, if she isn't respecting your interests or supporting what you like, I don't see why you shouldn't put yourself before her." She said. "It would be wrong if you were selfish even if she were fully supportive or understanding, you know..."
"You think so?"
"I know so" she confidently said "If they leave you because you have interests that they're not okay with, let them leave. For good" by now she sounded pissed.
"You sound mad, Tsuki chan" he chuckled.
"Oh, I am! If someone told me to choose them over volleyball I'd tell them to go suck a d- never mind..." she scoffed. "Don't worry about her, you'll find someone better. Don't set your standards so low"
"I know what I'm doing is wrong" he said. "But I really liked her. I liked hearing her cheer for me during my games."
"What do you even mean? She's the school's cheerleader. She cheers for everyone like that" Setsuki laughed and he almost pouted. "But she was comforting sometimes. She knew what she wanted. She even came over a few times when I was sick... she just got really annoyed, I guess"
"Your standards are seriously SO LOW!" She said "Geez!"
"I guess... but thank you for listening to me" he looked at her small figure, walking beside him like she didn't have a care in the world. She didn't judge him like everyone else did and it was evident on her very face. She looked at him and he saw the bright glint in her eyes before she closed in on him and his breath hitched.
She tiptoed a little and pulled him down by his shirt before whispering in his ear "I tend to forget things, Oikawa san" she said with a baby-like smile on her face "You can tell me anything you want to. I listen to everything and forget it all"
Oikawa felt his heart clench. He turned to look at her, only to realise how close their faces were and his hands burned to feel the touch of her skin. She hadn't seen it coming, when she felt his breath fan against her lips her mind stopped working. She swore she lost her voice when he leaned into her ear "You'll forget everything I tell you?"
"Y-Yes..." she said.
"You won't remember a thing?" He asked and she only nodded because if she tried to speak she knew she'd only whimper. He smiled taking in her scent, his hands buried deeper into in his pocket so he wasn't tempted into holding her.
"I wish you were my girlfriend instead"
