It had been two months since I had first met rue and we'd run into each other twice before, but never had we talked or hung out for longer than a few minutes.
Today I decided that i was gonna hang out with my friends from the musical, Toph, Mor and Sarah. When we sat down on the fake grass where the girls hung out I looked around at the other kids that I didn't know. There were three people who I knew besides the twins and Sarah. There names were Doug, Jake and Jude.
I knew them from the blue house meetings we had every second week. I smiled shyly at the other people sitting on the hill. After
Toph introduced me to her friends she asked if I liked to read. I looked her dead in the eyes, my face serious and said "reading is my life" then burst out laughing.
Toph joined in and then after we had both calmed down she started talking about her favourite series twilight. I had never really liked the book series but I was glad to have a friend who loved reading as much as me. I started to feel less out of place and I got to talking with one of the other girls named Vivienne. She told me to call her vivi which I found to be a really cool nickname.
As me and vivi talked I heard a male voice that sounded sorta familiar. I looked up to see my primary school friend Cardan walking around the corner with his arm over Rue's shoulder, laughing. Vivi called out to Cardan who, when he saw me sitting there, smiled and waved.
"Hey Theo! How have you been? We haven't seen each other since graduation." He chuckled lightly and I smiled back. Me and Card got along really well when we were in grade 6.
"I've been hood Card. How have you been? It's been so long since we've talked. I missed you man."
"Haha yeah. So what you doing hanging over here. I thought you hung out with Rachel and those girls these days"
"I was but we kinda had a falling out. It was nothing big. Just that I was being left out a lot and Lucy and Reyna started to take over the group" I rolled my eyes at the mention of the two bullies names. I saw Rue looking in our direction and smiled at her. We weren't really friends but she seemed like she would be a great person to hang with.
"Ugh. I those two girls are the worst. They were always the centre if attention and always got what they wanted" card scoffed.
I smiled at my friend and laughed. "I know right! If they wanted something they got it!" I smiled and was about to say something but the bell rung.
I let out a groan of annoyance. I had humanities next and, even though I loved my teacher, I hated that subject. I walked towards the doors talking with Mor until we had to split ways to go to our lockers. I couldn't wait for the day to be over so I could just go home and read my book.~
After fifth period I went back to the hill with the fake grass. Rue was the only one sitting there since everyone else had class on the other side of school or was at the canteen. We got to talking about books and ships from our favourite ones. Sarah came around the corner talking to non other than Sam.
I know Sam was in my class and all but I was always on the other side of the room and was partnered with someone else. We talked a lot but it was always about the work we were doing and didn't go for long before his best friend Connor showed up. I was always great full for Rhodes moments because it stopped me from being an awk are mess.
I tried to hide my blush as he came near but rue still saw it and nudge me with her elbow. "Ooo who's that T?" That girl whispered to me. I was surprised at the new nickname but I liked it. I glared at her before answering.
"That's Sam. He's a guy in my class who I really like but don't tell him" at that she laughed and eventually I joined in.
"Hey Theo. Hi. I don't know your name sorry." Sarah leaned over and whispered something to sam and then he turned back to us. "Oh Rue. Wow that's a really nice name. Well it's mice to meet you. I'm Sam by the way"
"well hey Sam. We were just talking about you." Rue laughed as I glared daggers at her.
"We weren't just talking about you" I said through gritted teeth "I was just saying who you were because Rue had never seen you before" Sam just chuckled at that and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
Sarah laughed at how flustered I looked before remembering why she had come over with Sam. "Mr Wills needs all the cast members to go to the theatre for an announcement about the musical."
"Ok I'm on my way." I smiled and said goodbye to lily and walked towards the drama building with sam and Sarah, making sure to be next to Sarah and not Sam.
