Saying that the whole world felt like it was yelling at you was an understatement. You smile up at Henery, out on his morning shift as he buzzes you into Quantico. He lets out a quick quip, reminding you to stay positive and you say something you barely remember back. Despite your fight to appear composed, within the four walls of your head was a persistent pounding reminding you of everything you've done wrong over the past two days. The office appears calm as you trudge in, people often don't realize that the team doesn't have cases every week. Sometimes you'll go days without even receiving an invitation and it was one of your lucky days. You could see the outline of Hotch's body, hunched over his desk and just like everyone else on the team, you've learned his body language to the point. He was relaxed and focused on some menial task, paperwork probably. Making your way to your desk, Morgan greets you with a pat on the shoulder.
"Paperwork day, hot stuff. You look happy bout' it." he flashes you a pearly smile before plunking down in the seat across from yours, coffee in hand.
"Don't get me started" in a huff, you grab the coffee from his hands and throw back a long sip of the steaming hot liquid.
"Well- help yourself, I guess" Morgan laughs. When you don't respond with a taunt and rather sit down in a defeated eyeroll, he begins to snicker.
"God Y/N. I didn't take you for a party gal. I assumed you'd spend your only day off to read or something?" Morgan claims. The sad part is that he's right. You'd much rather have gotten take-out, re-read some of your favourites, maybe had a movie night with Ziyha. But of course, she had another plan for you.
"I'm really not, my friends Ziyha on the other hand- it certainly was a long night" you give Morgan a glare and turn your attention to the coffee.
"This is lovely, what order is this?" you ask.
"It's- well, it's not mine." Morgan turns his head to the door as the one person you dreaded seeing most comes barreling into the office.
"Good morning! Did you happen to pick up my coffee Derek?" Spencer talks as he stops by his desk, pulling out his stuff and making himself more comfortable.
"Well Dr, I did happen to buy coffee this morning. But I don't think it's yours anymore" Morgan snickers again, a toothy grin turning to face you as he speaks.
"I'm so sorry Spence, I- I will pick you up another tomorrow. I'm just assuming you don't want this one." you knew your face was flushed, not just because you made a silly mistake but because you were faced with the man who hasn't left your brain, along with the endless headache, for days. One who you'd made a fool of yourself in front of once already.
"Oh- No problem Y/N. You look like you had a long night anyways." in surprise and delight, Morgan whips his head back as he falls into a full belly laughing fit. Which leaves time for Spencer to send you a quick smirk before handing you a file and walking back over to his seat. With an embarrassed scoff, you shooed Morgan away and shoved your face into the work for the day. One you are already ready to end.

Around mid-day the office seemed to have become even more quiet, which you could only be grateful for. The headache that had been dancing around your skull seems to be floating away, and you've finished more than half of the paperwork you needed done for the last case. As a reward you let yourself raise your head to take a closer look at Reid. Since this morning, you have purposely willed yourself to look anywhere in the room other than at him.He hasn't even tried to engage in conversation with you either, which would usually be strange. The two of you could often become easily distracted falling into conversations about your latest case, or the morning news. But today, you could tell Reid was acting differently around you. He was calculated, as if he was testing something.
"Almost finished?" you ask.
"Just about, what about you?" Reid smiles, glancing up at you then returning to his paper to finish a sentence. How odd, he'd usually drop everything to talk with anyone. Especially you.
"Yeah same here, man, Eaven really was a lunatic" you try to pry something out of him. Had you embarrassed at him? Had you even compromised your friendship by drunk texting him?
"He was an incredibly angry man. Mixed with his clear sociopathic behaviours, dissociative states, and schizophrenia. When he lost his mother, there really was no other option than to go ballistic." Reid falls back into his hyper-analytical self and for a moment you're relieved. He looks directly at you and allows himself to ramble about what he's thinking, you're even surprised by how much you missed the conversations held by the both of you. But Reid catches himself, quickly falling back into his writing.
"You're so right Reid. Anyhow, do you think you could show me Rico's file. I want her full testimony for the last report." maybe a walk will help him loosen up.
"Yeah- Sure. I can" the two of you get up in a stretch. Preparing to make your way to the file room underground. Again, to your surprise. The conversation between the two of you on the way to the room, or the little you even share is casual and aloof. Reid seems to be distracted, which is something you've become accustomed too as he is often thinking about 7 things at once. But the distracted Reid you loved was not the one before you. Filling you with more uncertainty then before, when you finally reach the cold cluttered room, you make sure to close the door behind you.
"Look, Spence- I'm really sorry about what happened last night. I was drunk, and just so- taken aback by seeing you. You're one of my favourite people here and I just want us to be cas-" as you continue to trail on, a look of true bemusement appears on Reid's face.
"I'm one of your favourite people?" suddenly you're aware of how close the two of you are, as he towers in front of you. His eyes peering down, searching for something. You can feel your breath hitch as you take a small step back.
"Well- um. Yes, I think we get along well." he takes another step foreword, keeping the two of you close.
"That's not what I asked Y/N. Am I really one of your favourite people here?" somehow he feels even closer to you as he speaks, his sudden domineering statue broiling over you like a father disciplining his child. You can barely muster up a asentance as a small smile creeps on his face.
"Yes Reid- I- You are." then suddenly he softens. With a quick turn he makes his way over to a shelf.
"Good. The file is right here" you watch as he digs around one of the hundred of boxes around you. Pulling one from the masses and bringing it back to you. Frozen in your spot, you take the file from his hands with an ever changing expression. Your whole body is flushed from emotions you can't even put a name on and you knew Reid was eating it up. This whole time you had misunderstood why he was suddenly acting so strange, but the answer is suddenly clearer than ever. He's teasing you, trying to analyze what you do in response. Spencer Reid is trying to make you submissive.
"What about me?" you make sure to change your demeanor, letting your arms fall to your side.
"Pardon?" he stills, seeing the change in your behaviour and watching to see what's next. Pretty boy forgets that you're a profiler too.
"I said" you pause, walking right up to him and reaching out for his tie. Slowly you lean into him while you fiddle with his crooked clothes. "What about me, Dr. Reid? Am i your favourite person too?"
"I- yes you are" his voice is a whisper as he looks down at you, lips parted perfectly, practically begging to be kissed.
"Hmm, good" you respond, suddenly tugging his tie, forcing him to be eye level with you. With a small gasp, his honey brown eyes blow wide as he stares at you in shock.
"Thank you for helping me Dr. I think I've gotten what I need." without sparing him another glance, you pivet and saunter out of the file room as though you hadn't a care in the world. Leaving behind a speechless and excited Reid stood quietly behind you, dreaming about what he was going to do next.
