Prologue

The silence is broken by an infant's cries, doctors and nurses rushing in sending orders everywhere, "She's bleeding too much, quick get another blood bag and prepare for a transfusion."

The mother's eyes looked around frantically, her vision beginning to distort, "My baby, I-I want to see her." Her voice was shaky. The nurses run around the room not hearing her. "Is she okay?" Her voice getting slightly louder, lifting her head frantically. "Ma'am, calm down. She's okay, lay back down please, you need care first."

A nurse comes around holding the little girl wrapped in pink blankets next to the mother, her eyes swell up with tears as she reaches out touching the cheek of her newborn daughter. Doors open from the other side of the room, a man stood there panting. "Tsukiko," He sounded relieved seeing the mother, Tsukiko, smiling at the child.

"Look at her," She begins her voice quiet as color in her face disappears as time passes. "She's so beautiful.. So small. So perfect." Tears fall down Tsukiko's cheeks, smiling as she looks up at the man. "Look at our daughter, our perfect new baby girl.." The man comes to her side, holding her hand looking at her with worried eyes. Nurses and doctors stood watching, eyes filled with regret.

"Ma'am, would you like to hold your daughter?" The nurse holding the baby asks, trying not to cry. Tsukiko nods holding out her arms slowly as the nurse places the baby in her arms. The baby shifts whining, little hands reaching out, Tsukiko holds out a finger and lets the baby hold it with her small hand.

"I'm so happy to be able to have held her.. To see her." Tsukiko starts crying, smiling looking up at the man, "Do you remember the name we picked for her?"

The man nods looking at Tsukiko worried, but lovingly as he leans down closer to her. Tsukiko looks down at her child one more time before handing the baby to the man, feeling faint, laying down smiling.

"Emi, I think it suits her well. My beautiful Emi."
