Hilbert, Gödel and Matilda were exhausted after the battle and had walked for a day and a half without interruption. They made a funeral pyre so that the creatures of chaos could not profane Fenriz's body. The potions had healed their wounds, but their hearts were broken by the death of their precious ally. Timo was being carried by Matilda, the potions healed his injuries, but his spinal column had been deformed when he fell from the tree. He couldn't walk and was in a lot of pain. Gödel had made a potion with analgesic plants to relieve his pain. Morgan was flying overhead. They see the lake and Gödel goes to the hiding place opening a secret door, in the shape of a large rounded stone, which led to a hut that was inside a cave. Upon reaching that spot, Matilda, who had a cloak covering her upper part, slowly placed Eckhart on a bed of straw on the floor and then lay down on the other, which was on the opposite side. Covering herself with the cloak, she turned sideways to the wall and fell asleep immediately. Gödel lit some special candles around the cabin and then closed that secret door. Gödel arranged the straw next to him and also fell asleep with tears in his eyes. Hilbert looked at his companions with regret. Timo was rested, but he was very sedated due to the medication. He had slept when he was being carried and woke up when he was placed on his straw bed. Hilbert apparently kept himself from sleeping.
"Hilbert," says Eckhart, his voice weak and sedated. "Get some sleep! I will be watching the door and if something invades this place I will warn you."
Hilbert nods, settles in a corner and sleeps.
Eckhart tried to move his legs, but they responded very little. Huge pain arose when he made this move. He decided to turn his attention back to the cabin door and stood there for hours. His thoughts were the most diverse. He thought about the battle and also about his fiancée who lived in Whitecastle. He took his bow in his hands and held it tight as tears began to stream from his eyes. The situation in which he found himself terrified him. He thought he would be a burden on the journey. At that moment, he tried to look for an arrow that might be nearby. He wanted to pierce his chest. He found none. He abandoned the idea when he remembered the words Hilbert had spoken to the creature in the clearing... "Selfishness would be abandoning the people who need me..." that phrase echoed in his mind. He needed to stay strong and he looked at the door again. His eyes were heavy and he eventually fell asleep. Everyone was sleeping and the forest outside was calm.
It was already midnight when Gödel was the first to wake up. He didn't feel any evil aura outside, but he decided to patrol the surroundings to be sure there was no sign of any threat. He sat next to the waterfall that faced the lake down the rocks. The soil it was on was above the lake. The small waterfall was about twenty feet in height and that place was in a depression. There was a wall of trees surrounding that place, which was very discreet. In the distance, Gödel could see Hilbert approaching and sitting next to him.
"'Excuse me for those punches, Hilbert. The only one to blame for Fenriz death is that bastard." Gödel smiles at his friend and puts a hand on his shoulder.
"Any of the three of us would have done the same thing, don't you think? To sacrifice our own lives in order to save our friends' asses. But we would have done anything to save Fenriz." Hilbert smiles and looks at Gödel.
"I'm sure we would!" Gödel smiles back.
"Besides, those punches helped me sleep! It was a sleep without nightmares! I think when I have trouble sleeping again; I will challenge you to a fight without weapons or armor!" Hilbert winks at his friend and slaps him on the back.
"Really? You only fight with this pompous armor. I think that without it you can't take a punch! When we fought, when we were children, you always got screwed!" Gödel starts laughing at Hilbert's face.
