I curse to myself under my breath as I hurry through the winding halls of the castle. Being late on my first day of classes is not what I wanted, especially to my potions class. Before we went to bed last night, Susan told me all about the different classes and professors I have on my schedule. Professor Snape, she had told me, is the one person you don't want to get on the wrong side of. And apparently, it's incredibly easy to get on the wrong side of him.
Perfect, just perfect! Way to fuck up your life at another school before it's even started, Seraphina.
So caught up at yelling at myself in my mind, I don't notice the fact that I'm heading straight towards someones back until I've already bumped into them, sending them and I tumbling to the ground.
"Ow! What do you think you're doing, knocking me to the ground, you filthy little freak?" A cold voice spits at me, and I reluctantly look up to meet the dark eyes of Draco Malfoy. Susan had warned me about him too. He picks himself up quickly, making a spectacle of dusting himself off as he glares down at me.
"I'm... I'm so sorry. I should've been looking where I was going." I stutter out, climbing to my feet after I've picked up my fallen books.
"Don't want to go making enemies on your first day, do you, Harmonia?" His gaze is fixed on me as I shift nervously, unable to remove my gaze from him. I feel as though I'm being hypnotised. A shiver runs down my spine as his eyes travel slowly down my body then back up again before meeting my gaze once more.
"No, I don't." My reply is short, I'm scared that if I talk for much longer I'll start stuttering again. Why am I suddenly so desperate to make a good impression on this boy who called me a 'filthy little freak' not two minutes ago?
"Then watch yourself. I'm a Malfoy you know, I have influence around here." He sneers at me once more, smirking as he runs a hand through his platinum blonde hair that frames his face nicely.
"It won't happen again..." I trail off, not quite knowing how to handle this situation as he makes no move to walk off, he just continues staring at me. Thankfully, the situation is handled for me when someone approaches us from behind.
"Haven't you got anything better to do with your time than intimidate the new girl, Malfoy?" I turn to look at my saviour, my eyebrows shooting up when I see that it's Harry Potter and who I presume are his two friends. He shoots me a reassuring look before fixing his glare back on Draco.
"Got a crush on the new girl, Potter?" He counters, chuckling to himself, turning to walk away before making one last comment over his shoulder, "Like I would waste my time on three idiots and a mudblood."
An audible gasp leaves me at his last statement... how dare he call someone a mudblood? I look to my new companions and from the expression on the girls face, I deduct that she is the muggle-born wizard. I decide to introduce myself quickly so she has no time to dwell on the comment malfoy made.
"Thanks for that," I smile, turning first to Harry before addressing the group as a whole, "I'm Seraphina Harmonia." I feel strangely at ease around this trio.
"I'm Hermione Granger, I assume you know who Harry is, and that is Ron Weasley." Hermione steps forward, holding her hand out to me with a smile. I shake her hand lightly, clutching my books to my chest with one hand.
"Nice to meet you all. Could anyone point me towards potions with Snape? I'm terribly late." I question, Hermione's eyes widening as she realises that - yes, class has already begun.
"Oh, bugger, we are late. Ron I told you we shouldn't have gone to catch that chocolate frog." She rolls her eyes at the ginger boy who is quick to go on the defensive.
