Both Shuichi and Himiko had come into the common room. Both of them were crying, himiko sobbing in Tenko and Angie's arms and shuichi refused to let go of Kaito, Kokichi and me. After a good minute of hugging Shuichi let go of us. Kokichi tried his best to not start sobbing but he couldn't help it. He jumped right at shuichi, apologizing about all the class trials and everything else he had done. Shuichi hugged him back letting out a few small sobs in between his own apologies.
Now with tear stains on my sweater and a few tears rolling down my face, I looked around the room, Maki wasn't there yet. I stared at the dark pink door, waiting to see her figure.
"Hey! Uddertits! Who are you waiting for?" Miu sat next to me, I ignored her vulgar language, I've gotten used to it by now.
"Maki should be here soon." I sighed leaning into the couch. Keeping my gaze on the door I saw a figure slowly becoming bigger. "It's her!" I whisper-yelled at Miu. she slowly opened the door, her long chocolate brown hair was down and tangled. Her deep red eyes were the brightest thing on her pale face and her uniform looked large on her. The sleeves on Maki's uniform were unrolled, reaching the ends of her finger tips. Both me and Kaito were staring at her, she quietly closed the door before looking out in the room. Making eye contact with me.
After a few seconds of staring, Maki came running towards me... well more of a fast wobble. She was tripping over her feet and wasn't used to walking yet. I grabbed her waist and lifted her up before wrapping my arms all the way around her. She was light and easy to hold up, her hair was soft, even if it was tangled. She wrapped her arms around my neck and had one leg around me. I stepped backwards a few times, maki burrowed her head in the crook of my neck for a few seconds. After lifting her head she made a grabby hand motion to kaito.
"Happy to see you too makiroll." Kaito smiled and wiped away a tear. She didn't let go of me even as she was hugging Kaito, keeping her legs wrapped around me. She hugged kaito in an awkward position. She let go of the both of us and looked at the others. She looked at the sobbing Himiko and Kokichi and Shuichi who were wiping away tears as they talked about what happened during the killing game.
Maki grabbed my hand before dragging me over to Tenko, Himiko and Angie. Maki had a smile on her face as she knelt down and hugged the three. She did this to everyone. Hugging them and smiling a genuine smile. When she made it to kokichi she just set her hand down on Kokichi's head. Shuichi laughed at Kokichi's face when she did that.
Maki did something she wasn't used to doing so many times within a few minutes, she looked tired. She hasn't said anything since she entered the room, staying silent but still showing affection to everyone. even kokichi. I just admired her from the couch. her eyes piercing everything they looked at, her figure rugged but her touch soft and comforting.
Maki sat down next to me, she leaned back into the couch, a soft smile faint on her lips. I giggled before speaking to her.
"would you mind if i brushed your hair? It looks like it would take a while for you to brush it out on your own." she turned to me, sitting up and taking a look at her hair.
"y-yes please." Maki stammered out. her voice was hoarse from not actually using it for more than a year. hearing her voice was nice, not hearing a friends voice for that long can really take a toll on you. I quickly grabbed a hairbrush from the side table next to the couch.
Before I could start to brush Maki's hair, Kirumi stood up and started to speak.
"Well everyone, it's becoming late. I would advise heading to our rooms soon before a nurse yells at us." She announced to everyone. "This was already an eventful day for our three survivors and I can only guess how tired they are. So goodnight to you all!" Kirumi headed towards the door into the girls' dormitories with all the girls but me and Maki following. The boys left, shuichi holding onto kaito and kokichi as support as he stumbled out. I leaned forward and whispered to Maki.
"Do you want me to walk you to your room?" Maki nodded.
"Yes, thank you Kaede." I stood up and turned to face her. Maki stood up trying to take a step but falling , I caught her, quickly wrapping my arms around her.
"I know you're used to being physically strong but you lost most if not all of your strength when you participated in the killing game." I hoisted her up back to her feet and put her arm around my shoulder. "Everybody except me, rantaro, ryoma and kirumi is going to physical therapy to regain their strength."
Maki responded with an unhappy moan. We started walking to her room, inside Maki sat on her bed. She looked extremely tired and even looked out of breath. I walked over to her desk and opened a drawer, inside there were a bunch of toiletries like shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I grabbed a brush out of the drawer and walked over to Maki.
"So, are there any questions you might have?" I sat behind Maki and started to brush out her hair, starting from the ends.
"Where's Tsumugi?" Maki put her legs on the bed and sat in a criss-cross position.
"Tsumugi! She works here, she's a caretaker but also one of us. She lives in a different area but she has visited us from the beginning. At night when you were in the program she would log out to talk to the ones who died in the game." Maki's hair was very long, longer than it was in the game. She was in need of a haircut and shower. "She's going to visit in a few days, please don't blame her for how she acted. She is going to explain a lot soon."
"Mmh" Maki seemed to understand. "What is this place?"
"Ah, this place is a... it's hard to explain. Testing facility? That's why all of us are ultimate, they wanted to test how specific things affected ultimate students."
"Hmmm." Maki hummed. She didn't have any more questions and it would've been uncomfortable to talk about the killing game. We sat in silence as I brushed out her hair. With the amount of hair she has I had to empty the brush a couple times. After about ten to twenty minutes I finished brushing her hair, I ran my fingers through her hair and looked at the dead ends of Maki's hair.
"Do you know when i could get a haircut here? Or a shower." Maki grabbed a chunk of her hair and stared at the ends.
"Tomorrow you can ask for a haircut, you can take a shower anytime." I stood up from the bed. "You should really get to sleep, I know you're tuckered out from today." Maki nodded, she quickly put her hair in a ponytail to keep it from tangling while she slept.
"Goodnight, thank you for the help." Maki said, climbing under the blankets.
"Night night maki!" I smiled and left her room. So much happened in such little time i didn't realize how tired i had become. I sighed and walked to my room.
She's finally here again... and i'm still too scared to confess.
