Maguro and I went up to the roof. They had an area where you could lounge around. I brought my book and Maguro brought a flashlight as we searched for constellations, nothing out of the ordinary.
"Wow! Teehee! Our sky is so big... it's quite intriguing to me."
"The solar system is even bigger. It's hard to picture how we're just a small part of this big picture. ★"
"Eheh! We're not even ants to this! We're probably the size of a single cell in this universe. It's scary but fascinating."
"Indeed. I never took that into consideration. ★"
"It gets me quite curious. But we've been to space, heck, even to the edge of space time, and still there's so much to explore..."
"Yeah. ★"
We were silent for a bit. I felt awkward, and I could tell he felt the same.
"Ringo, I'm still worried about Risukuma. ★"
"Oh trust me, so am I. Taking how many times he's exploded something into account, and the fact this is more dangerous than those, I'd say that something bad is bound to be an outcome to that equation."
"Mathematically correct, as usual. ★"
I sighed.
"I just hope this doesn't end up really hurting anyone..."
"Yeah... ★"
And with that, the sky started to rumble.
"Wah-!"
Maguro grabbed my arm.
"Maguro, it's just a bit of thunder. Cmon, let's go inside and relax. If you need me, I'll be right here."
"Y-yeah... ★"
Maguro remains calm in most situations, but thunderstorms are the one thing he can't stand. Not as bad as my fear of- you know what's- but still.
We lay down in Maguro's room. We used to share a bed, but since we're older, we don't for obvious reasons, so we set up a mattress.
Though, tonight was different. Maguro was still panicked. I wished I could do something, as he was always there for me when I got scared or upset, but I didn't know what.
I turned and still saw Maguro quivering. By now it had started pouring and thunder was heavy, sometimes with lightning striking.
"Ringo...? ★"
"Yeah?"
"Ungh..."
He was embarrassed but I think I understood what he was trying to say. I got up and sat next to him. I patted his back and lay next to him. I noticed we both got a little awkward and tense. I sat up a bit and started to sing. It was a lullaby my mother had always sang to me.
"You have a pretty voice. ★"
"Oh- really...?" I blushed and turned away. I always sang, especially as a coping mechanism, or I'm just feeling really happy or excited for something.
"Thanks..." I got butterflies in my stomach, excited but was also embarrassed. I usually sing jokingly or as a cope as I just said, so this was a bit out of the ordinary.
Thunder struck again, and Maguro jumped. I lay back down and hugged him. He put his arms back around me. I noticed he'd hug me tighter when thunder struck. Our parents obviously didn't want us in the same bed... but we ended up falling asleep like this. What else could I do? I didn't want to leave Maguro while he was in a panic, after all.
