Chapter 1

•KARIO•

Staring down at the gun in my hand I was in a battle with myself on what to do.

This battle was ongoing and I fought it every day since my parent's death. With nobody there to help me, it was hard to figure out what I really wanted to live for.

"Say man my mom said you had to get up and get ready for school". My older cousin Dakari said banging on the door.

"Alright, I'll be out in a few minutes". I said and I could hear his footsteps walking away from the door.

Getting off of the bed I lift up the floorboard and place the gun inside before placing the board back over it.

Getting my backpack I sling it over my shoulder before walking over and unlocking the door.

Walking into the kitchen I see my aunt who was making breakfast.

"Are you going to eat with us today". She asked looking over at me.

"Nah I'm not hungry". I said before walking out of the house and down the road to school.

"Look at that nigga with them beat up ass clothes on". I heard somebody say but I just continued to walk.

"SAY BITCH YOU DON'T HEAR ME TALKING TO YOU". The person yelled but I still didn't stop until I felt myself being thrown against a car and hit in the stomach.

Breathing heavily I head butt him before they start jumping me.

"What do y'all think y'all doing". I heard a familiar voice say as they stop hitting me.

"Nothing man". One of them said as they let me go and I fall to the ground.

"Get the fuck away from my cousin and trust me you dead before night". Dakari said before they ran away.

"You good". He asked walking over and helping me up.

"I'm straight". I said before picking up my backpack and walking away.

~15 minutes later~

Walking up the steps to the school I see people staring and pointing as they laughed as I walked towards my locker.

Opening my backpack I put the books I'll need for the day in it and close it up. When I turn around I see my crush since grade school walk in with her boyfriend Jerome.

"Hey Oaklynn". Her best friend Yara said walking up to her.

"Hey girl". She said hugging her.

Looking over at me she gives me a small wave causing me to look away.

Walking off I make my way to homeroom before taking my seat in the back of the class. As the bell rung kids started making their way inside and in walked Oaklynn.

Looking around the room she looks right at me before making her way towards me and sitting in the desk beside me.

"Hey". She said giving me a beautiful smile.

"Wassup". I said giving her a head nod before looking down at the desk.

"Why don't you ever talk to anyone". She asked turning her body towards me.

"I'm cool being to myself". I said looking over at her.

"Well, I'm always open to a conversation". She said causing me to smile a little.

"Oaklynn come on girl". Her best friend Yara said causing us to both look over at her.

"Well I have to go it was nice talking with you". She said looking over at me before standing up from the desk.

"Yeah, you too". I said giving her a head nod and the teacher walked in.

"Alright let's get started". He said slamming his book on the desk.

|After School|

Walking out of my last class I go to my locker and put all my books away before making my way out of the school when I was pushed back by Jerome.

"Don't talk to my girl again nigga this a warning". He said pointing his finger in my face.

"Get your fucking finger out of my face". I said lowly with a blank face.

"What the fuck you say". He asked walking up on me and I pushed him back.

Right, when he was about to come up on me Oaklynn walked up getting in the middle of us holding her hands out.

"Hey hey hey what's going on here". She asked with her face scrunched up looking between the two of us.

"Nothing". He said looking down at her and she looked over at me.

"Well".She asked waiting on my answer.

"Like he said it's nothing". I said pushing her hand down gently before going to walk away.

"Hey wait". She called out causing me to stop.

"There's a party going on Friday night you should totally come". She said and I shook my head no.

"Nah I'm cool off that". I said and she started pouting.

"Come on please it'll be fun". She said and I sighed looking off to the side.

"Alright". I said and she squealed before holding her hand out as I gave her a confused look.

"Your phone". She said doing a give me motion as I pulled out my phone handing it to her.

"I saved my number and texted myself so I'll send you the details about the party". She said and I nodded taking my phone back.

"OAKLYNN LET'S GO". Jerome yelled looking over at us.

"I'm sorry I got to go". She said giving me a weak smile before walking off towards him.

As they walked away he turned around and mugged me.

Shaking my head I turn and walk out of the school.
