"Time for breakfest."
Simon sat up in his bed rubbing his eyes. When they came into focus he was in his small room in the orphanage, The other kids were getting ready.
He stood up and moved with the others to the dinning room. They sat down for breakfest and Sister Landi came over with their meals.
"You know just because Joesoph is no longer with us doesn't mean you guys have to look like hes dead. He's just at the capital." Sister Landi placed down Simons bowl and without a word he started eating. He knew that Joe was just off at Eeclia, but he couldn't help but feel sad.
Joe was his favorite out of his three "brothers". He was always there for Simon when he needed him. Now it was back to fearing the outside.
"sister why did Joe go off to the capital?" Daniel the youngest of the bunch at only 12 asked, looking up at Sister with innocent eyes.
"He's training to be a soldier of Unoroth. He will be back one day to give us a bunch of money."
"not if he dies first." The second oldest spoke out. He was the realistic one out of all them.
"don't say that, you might give him bad luck." Sister Landi said with a worried look on her face. it was bad enough she had her oldest kid leave the orphanage to go join something as dangerous as the military, but she couldn't do anything about it. "you ok Simon? You haven't said a word."
"Yeah im fine." He lied. He would just have to fight for himself, he thought. Or maybe the bullies don't have to know that his older brother is gone.
after eating 2 bowls Simon got up and told Sister he was going to start on his chores early to see if he can make some money in town.
He walked out of the orphanage and turned around to look at it. It was a basic one story house with a bell at the top, it had a giant gold eye over the door, symbolizing Isla the goddess of light. The roof was almost caving in, After that he would have to clean the rooms and chop wood. He quickly did his chores, making sure not to miss anything so not to be yelled at when he returned.
Once he was done Simon walked to the front of the church gates and ran out. He raced down the familiar roads of Liesta. It's badly shaped buildings going by him in a blur. Straight ahead was where he was heading. A tall building that looked like it might fall at any moment. But before Simon could reach it he was kicked from under his feet and onto the gravel at full force.
"where's your brother?" a rough nasty voice spoke. It was the bullies; The one in front was double the size of Simon, his name was Kilde. He was the governors son, coming from the capital. Apparently His dad was given the land of Liesta in a bet with the king. Of course that didn't make their family any less obnoxious and constantly tried to take out the orphanage, just because Simon was a half elf.
The one to his right was as skinny as Simon, but his features were completely different. He had a long nose and strawey white hair, and two big teeth that looked like they could chew an entire tree down.
The last one looked like he wasn't completely there, looking off in random directions, and sparking a laugh randomly but ending it just as abrubtly.
"H -h -he's here, h -he's just a -around the corner." Simon stuttered out, trying not to make eye contact with the first one.
"Really? Because I heard that he went off to the capital."
"w-who told you that."
"just your little brother. He was so talkative that i was almost going to beat his mouth in." He chuckled. His two buddies joined in. "since your brother's not here to protect you, it looks like we can have a little bit of fun."
The fat one cracked his knuckles and raised his fist. But Before he was able to land a blow on the cowarded Simon, his body froze. not just him, but the other two also. Simon slowly got up and looked behind the bullies. There was a tall man holding a wooden pale staff and a young girl around Simons age walking towards him.
He was just about to run when he realized he was frozen too. But the man seemed not to acknoledge him. instead looking at the bullies still frozen in place.
When the man finally looked at Simon he asked him "Do you know where i could find the Orphanage that sister Landi works at?" his voice was low but not really rough, rather smooth like a strum of a low string instrument.
"I do!" Simon exclaimed, realizing he could speak now. "I can take you there right now if you'd like that." He was just excited to get away from Kilde before they unfroze.
The man shook his head, "yes that would be great." Suddenly Simons body unfroze the man pointed with his staff to lead the way. As they walked away Simon heard a thump and three small voices crying behind him.
Once they reached the orphanage Simon pointed and looked at the man. "This is the Isla Liesta orphanage." Simon opened the gate and walked inside, "I live here, i'll go get Sister Landi." He ran inside, finding that Sister was already about to walk out the door. "Sister, there's a man and a girl at the gate who wants to see you."
They walked out together, reaching the gate Sister reached her arm out to the man. "I am sister Landi, the caretaker of this child and this orphanage. did Simon get into some kind of trouble, because if he did im sure he'll work it...."
"no nothing like that miss." the man cut her off. she looked a little mad, but didn't take to much offence. "though it is about Simon." Simons eyes lit up, who was this guy, how did he know Sister Landi, and why was he here for him.
