Jonathan Schlatt liked to spend his free time at church. Whether it was volunteering at events or eagerly listening to his pastor, you could probably find him at his church every Sunday morning or during his free time.

He awoke at 7am, stretching and yawning loudly before dragging himself out of bed and into the shower. Once he was clean and dressed in his Sunday best, he sat with his mom at the table with a bowl of cereal. She was sipping coffee, still trying to wake up.

Jonathan's parents always woke up a bit later than him, as they went to church later than he did. Schlatt had Sunday school at 9:30, and church didn't start until 10:30. His mother insisted they went to morning church instead of afternoon church, considering that she worked most nights and wanted to rest before clocking in.

After finishing two bowls of Lucky Charms, Jonathan brushed his teeth before saying goodbye to his mom. She had bought him a car for his 16th birthday, which made traveling easier for everyone.

Every Sunday he had parked in the same spot. To his surprise, his parking spot was filled with an unfamiliar car. It seemed that a new family was joining them in church today, much to Jonathan's surprise.

Hurriedly, Jonathan unbuckled his seatbelt and grabbed his Sunday school papers before rushing inside the tall building.

Jonathan was greeted by one of his friends, Travis. "J-money!"

They bumped fists before walking towards their designated room. "Is there someone new?"

Travis shrugged at the question. "I think so, but I'm not sure they'll be here next week. They're new in town, so they're goin to each church to see which one they like best."

Nodding, Jonathan opened the door for himself and Travis. His eyes scanned the room, eyes landing on an unfamiliar face.

The boy was timid. He had his knees pulled into his chest, somehow still fitting on the the chair he was sat on. The boy was scrolling through his phone, air pods tucked into his ears.

Travis and Jonathan sat at their normal seats, which were a few seats down from the new boy. They tried their best to not stare, but Jonathan was intrigued by the pale boy for some reason.

Something about him seemed different from everyone else. His jeans were so tight it was unbelievable that the poor boy wasn't suffocating.

The ride side of his hair was dyed a bright red, and he had a spiked bracelet decorating his wrist. Jonathan hadn't seen anyone around town that dressed so differently.

If there was one thing that the ladies at this church hated, it was dyed hair. Jonathan's older sister had balayage hair, which meant bleaching the lower part of her hair.

Susan, the pastors wife, had to pull Jonathan's mom to the side and talk to her about the complaints from the ladies of the church. The next Sunday, her hair was back to its natural color.

"I'm gonna say hi to him." Jonathan whispered to Travis, whose eyebrows raised in surprise. He gave his friend a look of uncertainty as he stood to greet the new boy.

Tapping his shoulder, Jonathan cleared his throat as the new kid pulled his air pods out.

"H-Hi!" Jonathan stuttered, nervous for some reason. "My name is Jonathan. Most people call me Schlatt, though. What's your name?"

The boy looked stunned. "My name is Ryan."
