On the next morn, the father securely chained a padlock across the straps of the pack, much to Little Ruby's dismay. They had filled a large basket with food and wine, and with those items, they were sent into the woods. The pack of rocks was heavy and caused Little Ruby to stumble and the basket quickly grew leaden in their arms. Though they stopped many a time, and ate much of the food, so the basket no longer weighed so heavily, it was well after nightfall when they arrived at their grandmother's house. The night had been filled with terrible howling and vicious sounds. Thankfully, they had not come across the werewolf. Most unfortunately and unbeknownst to Little Ruby, their grandmother had already gone out to hunt the werewolf, concerned when Ruby did not show. The werewolf had stolen into her house, for in her old age, she had forgotten to lock the door, and dressed in her clothing and laid in her bed, awaiting the arrival of the child. When Ruby arrived at their grandmother's home, a peculiar sense overcame them, as though something were wrong. As they entered, Ruby saw the form of their grandmother laying on her bed, yet it was far too big to be their small grandmother. And when they drew the curtains back, a flash of horror rippled through them, it was the werewolf!
