Thunder flashed in the sky. Dark, and murky.
Really, it wasn't uncommon in a place like this, filled with twisted shadows, cracked stones, and the endless scent of betrayal.
Betrayal.
Yes, that was what it was like here, every night. There was no way to escape it, and those who try just suffer even more. You can't hide from betrayal, you can't avoid them, you can't betray them.
The land was dry and barren, suffering from the merciless lack of sunlight. There was no sign of life, not a shuffle of a paw, not one bit. So what was this land doing here? If it was so hopeless, useless, worthless, to do anything in?
How very wrong that was.
In the middle of the sea of misery, a single, dark, castle stood; darker than the sky itself. It loomed over everything, casting a vast shadow over the land, standing threateningly at anything that dared cross its path.
A tip of a tower shone through the fog, darker, yet clearer, than any other.
"No troubles, mother." a voice sounded, coming from inside the tower. It was charming, mesmerizing, and yet, cold, sending shivers down your spine. It wasn't something you would expect from a place like this.
"It's been a long time since there's been trouble," another voice replied, it had the same cool tone, but without the charm. "Keep the lookout well."
"Of course."
There was a pause, then, "Mother?"
"Yes?"
"The new set has-"
"I know, dear, let's just hope they don't cause any trouble," There was a dim light inside the tower, slightly illuminating the area around it. Two people stood beside it, one a tall slender woman; the other almost the exact same, only younger, a teenage girl, both covered in midnight black cloaks. There was something about the pair that made the atmosphere freeze.
"They won't," the girl promised as she faced the woman. She crouched down, a sign of respect.
"I supposed they won't dare, will they?"
"I won't let them."
The woman nodded regally, placing a hand on the girl's shoulder, "Good," the girl stood back up as the woman lowered her hand.
"Don't worry, I won't fail you," the girl a nod before turning around and walking out of the room.
The woman turned, a smile seemed to flicker on her face for a moment, but just a moment. She seemed to radiate with power, she was power, she was the center of everything, every edge of the land, every shadow in the corner, every wisp of a breeze, every thread of desire.
A new set... a new set of fledglings, hmm?
Her eyes glittered as she looked out at the dark, night, sky.
And beyond.
Far away from home,
A castle stood alone.
In a place of total darkness,
It's more than it is shown.Inky skies,
Eternal night,
Crooked shadows,
A pitch black light. The tower of vile,
Your one true enemy.
