WHEN THE SKY IS BLUE

chapter three

TWO YEARS LATER
MARYAM: It's been two years exactly, that I've been working for the RICHARD'S . truth be told they've been super nice to me and my family.
Today is a very big day both Daniel and Rose would be coming back from the states this night which only means that we have redecorate the whole house and prepare a lot of different variety of foods and assorted drinks.

LATER TONIGHT
DANIEL: Wow, dad it's really nice to be back to Nigeria . I miss everything about home especially mummy's special food . Do you remember that spot where we get all those assorted meats and chilled local drinks like palm wine?
ROSE: You don't say Daniel, there is nothing I miss like all those weekend owambe that you'll eat till you can't eat again. I can't wait to hang out with friends , weekend drinks is on me.
MARYAM: Sir Daniel and Miss Rose, mummy and daddy has called you in the living room.
ROSE: Thank you for passing that information to us, we'll be there shortly. And please I've already told you countless times that you should call us by our names.
DANIEL: What an insolence act are you trying to conduct here? Don't you ever do the mistake of calling me by name or else I'll make sure you lose this job, you this foolish girl ( walks out).
MARYAM: ( Burst into tears) what exactly did I do to your brother? Why must he complain about every little thing that I do. I've done nothing but serve and show your entire family respect but still he just has this special hate for me.
ROSE: (hugs her) Oh Maryam, am so sorry for the way he treats you. Generally, Daniel is a cool and nice guy. Don't worry I'll talk to him and am sure that he'll change towards you for the best that I promise. So, please stop crying and have your dinner before going home.
DANIEL: ( Alone in his room). Why do I get affected so much each time her eyes meets mine, her smiles alone makes me tremble so much and the only thing I can do is just to make her hate me and not want to be seen alone with me ( phone rings)
SUSAN ( DANIEL GIRLFRIEND): Hey lover boy, I miss you so much and I can't stop thinking about. Also I'll be coming back to Nigeria soon and I would love to pay you a visit that way I will be able to meet your family and we'll talk about our marriage.
DANIEL: The woman I love, I miss you too dear . I can't wait to have you in Nigeria , I will not only introduce you to my family but    also to my closest friends and take one of the biggest clubs here in Gombe. ( ends call) Gosh, I need to get this girl out of my mind. I mean she's just 18 and 21 also a muslim too. I should just focus on my girlfriend and try to make our relationship the best we can make it (sleeps off).
ROSE: ( Phone conversation) My love and happiness. Sorry I've not been able to call or reply your messages I was busy with family. Hope you are doing great and how's work .
GABRIEL ( ROSE BOYFRIEND):Baby girl, it's okay I understand that's how families are especially when it's been long they've seen you. I was about to send you a good night text before you called me. I am doing very much just missing you . I would have loved us to talk more but I need to sleep because I have an early presentation at work. Good night and always remember that I love you.

ROSE :(Sighs ). Alright baby, am just glad that we are able to talk before going to bed . I love you too.

MARYAM'S RESIDENCE
MRS MUKTAR: who told that boy that he can make my poor daughter cry so much. He should know that it's totally wrong for a man to make a woman to cry no matter what happened .
ZAINAB: Mama it's okay. It's very possible that he was in a very bad mood when Maryam approached him and that's why he snapped at her. And why don't say something too you've been crying since you came back.
MARYAM: ( Sniffs) he's not in any bad mood. He just dislike me kawai, he's the only one who has problem with me in that house . Even his junior sister is nice to me. It's like he see a lion each time he looks at my eyes ( continue crying).
MRS MUKTAR: Look girls, it's okay do one thing for me tomorrow . Maryam , when you get to work find a time and talk to him and apologize to him maybe you've offended him unknowingly . let's all go to bed and always remember that I love you very much.
MARYAM: Ina kwana ( good morning) mummy, I've heard all you told me last night and I will try and talk to him when he is free and ask for forgiveness if I've offended him unknowingly . I will see you guys later tonight , take care and make sure that you don't skip meal at any cost.
NAHIM: Aunty Maryam, please when coming back kindly buy me sweets and biscuits . also with a very cold drink.
ZAINAB: Kai nahim, you love food and junks too much . anyways, dear sister go well and make sure you take good care of yourself.
MARYAM: Okay darlings, I've heard the both of you I will make sure I do everything you want me to do. So guys stay indoor and stay safe dear . good bye and I'll see you tonight ( walks out).
NAHIM: Okay, bye!!!.
