Ellie's alarm didn't go off, and no one bothered to wake her, either... so she went to school without breakfast and no lunch as well. It was turning out to be a wonderful day. Not.
She stumbled out in the street in front of guy with a heavy backpack, riding a bike. He slipped in the gravel and fell off his bike in a slow mode. It was seriously hilarious, but Ellie froze.
"Sorry." She didn't know him. He looked at her as if she'd committed the worst crime of the day. She ran and met up with Leia who had been dropped off in front of the school by her Mom.
"You definitely don't look good, girl." She shook her head, no. "You need makeup. Badly."
"I know, but I didn't have a chance to do anything." Ellie winced. She was doing good in her sweats and her hair in a ponytail on top of her head. At least she was in her plaid deck shoes.
"How late did you stay up last night?" Leia began to question.
"I don't know." It was late, like after one in the morning. She just couldn't get to sleep. Ellie had a lot of her mind.
"You know, we all must have our beauty sleep if we're going to survive." Leia leaned in to Ellie. "Now come on, let me look in my bag. You need a makeover." And Leia did have a big bag of goodies.
They went in to the restroom and Leia started digging out a babydoll dress and sandals.
"What?"
"I almost wore this, this morning," she said. "I couldn't decide. You better be thankful I couldn't decide. Come on get out that P. E. outfit and get dressed. Leia didn't wait. She pulled off the hoodie and got Ellie out of the sweat pants. Ellie felt naked in her under tank top and boy briefs.
"You have got to get with the program." Leia snapped. "I must take you undie shopping. Today."
Ellie slipped into the dress. It was shorter than she liked and her legs were possibly a little hairy. She hoped Leia wouldn't notice who was busy taking her hair down and handing her over some shiny carmel lip gloss.
"Who says I can't do this in under five minutes?" She added some eyeliner too. Ellie wasn't as plain as before.
"You're amazing." Ellie told her as Leia sprayed a fruity flavored cologne about. Seriously Ellie would have felt much more comfortable in the sweats. They left the restroom and Leia tossed her grey outfit in the Lost and Found heap.
The bell rang and they walked in to the throng, edging their way toward first class. Ellie felt someone's arm touch hers. It was Cory.
She didn't want to freak, but this was possibly going to be the best day possible. She smiled. He smiled back. She wished she could have taken a picture. It would have lasted longer. The moment was gone, and yet she held on to it. He didn't know it, but he'd just made her day.
