"Hello? Is anyone there?" Eunbin asked to the other line. No one must be speaking.
Her eyes widened and it made me curious. Who could be talking to her?
"H-hey..." she stuttered then pressed her lips together.
"Look, I don't want to talk to you... I don't even know how you got my number." She said with her eyes on the ground.
"Please... no. Please, just leave me alone." She pleaded, sounding desperate and hurt. After she said that she pulled the phone away from her ear and ended the call.
I looked away.
"Sorry, it's my ex," she said in a sad manner.
I glanced at her. She's playing with the straw of her milktea.
Should I lighten up the mood? Or should I ask her to open up?
"Its alright..." I uttered, trying to think of something to say.
"What did he say?" I asked her.
Wow... we are not close. Why did I even ask that?!
She sighed heavily. "Well he wanted to meet up with me. I'm tired of him playing with me."
I remained silent since I don't know what to say next. And I think this is the part where she opens up. I guess I should let her vent out all those negative feelings on me so she would feel better.
"He replaced me for some skinny legged girl who has doesn't do good in school." She scoffed. "Its annoying how good looks outweigh intelligence. I never want to see or talk to him again."
"You know..." I started. "I've never had a girlfriend before and I may not know how painful it is, but I just want to tell you that it's going to be okay."
She nodded, smiling a little.
"There's that smile," I praised her and her smile even widened.
"Maybe I will illustrate choosing a partner like milk tea. Sometimes people gets tired of loving the same flavor. So they try a different one and ended up liking it in the end." I smiled at her.
She tilted her head, probably thinking about what I said. "I don't quite get it."
"Well it goes the same for love. I guess some people get tired of their partner so they give up and find a different one. The one who was heartbroken keeps on loving that person without knowing she needs to move on and find another one to heal her." I explained.
She was silent for a few seconds while staring at me. I had no idea what she has on mind but her silence made me nervous.
She looked at her milktea and shook her head slowly. "I... I can't accept your illustration."
"W-why?" I chuckled.
Did I say something wrong?
"Because if you truly love that person you wouldn't give up on them. You wouldn't find someone else to heal the wounds that they have caused. It's just..." she reasoned to me in a slightly stressed manner.
Did I upset her?
"I-I'm sorry, I guess, for saying that." I apologized instead.
I don't want us to be like this since we just started building our friendship.
She chuckled and held her forehead and muttered, "I guess I haven't completely moved on."
But I heard it.
I looked away and bit my lower lip.
She hasn't completely moved on.
Do I even have a chance with her?
She bid me goodbye and left the store after finishing her milk tea.
I rest my head on the table and stared into nowhere while thinking about what happened.
I sighed and buried my face into my hands.
I screwed up badly.
