Wake me up when it's all over

"WARNING, CRITICAL HULL DAMAGE DETECTED IN SECTORS ALPHA THROUGH OMEGA. PLEASE MAKE YOUR WAY TO YOUR NEAREST ESCAPE PODS IN AN ORDERLY FASHION"

The automated voice rang out over the speakers, barely audible over the blaring sitens. A person, clad in armor, made their way through the ship, dodging rubble and debris from the damaged sections. A nearby explosion rocked their surroundings and sent them falling, along with pieces of the ship that just barely missed their head as they clattered to the floor.

"Gotta get to the escape pods.."

The phrase rang through their mind as they scrambled to their feet.

A familliar noise erupted from behind them as a blur of purple whizzed past their head. Faint recognition shook them to their core as the temptation to take a glance, just for clarity, entered their mind. But they refused, and continued, step after hasty step down the halls. Their heart pumped faster than sound as they rounded a corner, with purple blurs inches away from their head as the noise repeated like a ticking clock.

And then, their eyes catch the sight of hope-- The drop pods! Almost out of breath, they rushed into the room and locked the door behind them, barricading it with just anything they could grab.

They dared not hesitate for a moment longer, knowing those empty vents won't be empty for too long. Checking the drop bay, they noticed a few pods missing, sighing in relief.

"At least they got out", they swiftly went back to the staging area, and with a few button presses, they initiated the external launch sequence, hurriedly entering an drop pod as the timer began to tick.

The door shut immediately, and they hurried to strap in, hearing the noise of the door as it pressurized the cabin with a familiar hiss. They could feel the pod rotate, and as it prepares to launch, they could see the great blackness of space before them.

A loud bang echoed as the door to the staging area was broken down, and time seemed to slow as the beeping of the timer ticked away-

The last beep rang out like a bell as the pod was launched off of the ship. Just as they thought they were safe, a sudden impact on the pod's exterior knocked them hard, spinning the pod around, and giving them a horrific view of several covenant cruisers circling the large, old, bulky looking ship as it was heading further away. Purple ships attached themselves to the hull of the massive ship.

And for a moment, a thought crossed their mind as realization slowly began to set in.

"If there was all around critical hull damage, then where's-?"

Their thought was cut off by a bright, blinding light, filling their vision with white for few brief moments.

When their vision returned, all that was left of the massive ship, as well as any of the ships too close by, were rubble and debris. Horrified, they muttered a silent prayer for the families of those who would not return.

And suddenly, a red light from their side caught their eye.

[ WARNING. UNKNWON DEBRIS INCOMING. PLEASE BRACE FOR IMPACT.]

With only a few moments to lose, they grabbed tightly onto the seatbelt straps, their knuckles turning white from their grip. Before they could properly settle, the entire pod shook and they were flung off, their head hitting the cabin walls. Their vision started to spin as they struggled to keep their eyes open. The world turned hazy, and slowly but surely, it all went black.

Groggily they fluttered their eyes open, groaning in pain as they feel a throbbing in their skull. Going to rub the drowsiness from their eyes, they stop for a second, feeling a barrier. Blinking a few times they slowly reach for their face once more, feeling some sort of helmet as they pat around their head gently, as to not make the throbbing worse.

"What the hell?" Their voice came out low, and grumbly, hints of drowsiness still evident in their movements and tone. They went to stretch as they yawned, but were stopped as their limbs hit some sort of barrier. They inhaled sharply, looking to their left and right, realizing they were incased in a weirdly shaped metal box, thankfully with a window in front of them that had a view of a lifetime.

Before them was what could only be described as a perfect autumn, trees packed with leaves of red, yellow, and brown, watching as a few slowly drift to the ground. Their attention was pulled away from the scene by red lights above them. Curiously they reached a hand up to see if they could do something with one, and pressing on one of the lights with an oddly familiar click, as the light turns green.

Confused, but also hopeful that this was a way out, they pressed the other 'lights', and as the last was pressed, an oddly familiar hiss sounded from the chamber, as outside air pressure rushed in. Suddenly the window, and it's surrounding metal was flung off the metal box, landing to the ground with thuds and crunches.

They attempted to get out, but found that they were held down by some straps, looking down they quickly found the buckle keeping them in, and unclasped it. Finally free, they went to take a step out of the pod, but fell to the ground, their legs giving out from under them. '"How long was i out?" They muttered to themself as they slowly regained the feeling in their legs, standing slowly as to not fall again.

After a second of gathering their bearings, they turned around, looking back at the 'box' they came from, noticing it wasn't a box at all, but some sort of weird... pod shaped thing. A glint drew their eye to the side of the pod, right by where they were sitting a moment ago. Walking over revealed the glint to be coming from a weapon. Grabbing the weapon, they felt a sense of familiarity that they couldn't place, but brushed it off as the checked around the pod for any other supplies.

Unable to find much more other than what appeared to be spare ammo for the weapon, they set off away from the pod, step by step, they left the pod behind, searching for any sign of civilization.
