I had always wondered who my soulmate is. I would wonder what they would look like, what their gender would be, their personality. The fact that I don't need to worry about that anymore is nice to know, I guess.
I ended up meeting him on my first day at a new school. My family had recently moved from North Korea to Japan, and I was transferred to Akademi High School. My first day was a little weird. There was this girl with a black ponytail following me from time to time as I was trying to familiarize myself with the school. At some point, that girl had been following me for about ten minutes. I was getting a little nervous. Every time I looked back at her, her empty eyes were staring right at me, the only relent was her slow blinking. "Well," I thought. "I'm probably being rude, maybe-" my thoughts were interrupted. The girl ran right in front of me, took out her phone, and took a picture. Confused, I awkwardly faked a smile and kept walking.
I was walking fast, desperate to get away from that girl, turn the corner of the hall when she ran up to me again, and her voice rang out surprisingly clear, a little deep, but just like her eyes, it was monotone and piercing. "Can I tell you something?" Trying to be polite, I agreed, though all I wanted was to get away from those dark and emotionless eyes. She took a long pause. "um, are you-" I was cut off again. "Is there anything you need help with?" I wasn't expecting a question like that. I don't know what I expected, but that caught me off guard, especially with the hollow sound of her voice.
"Oh, no thanks, that's sweet though!" I said, keeping my insincere smile plastered on my face. I kept walking, and she kept following. "Are you looking for a club to join?" I almost banged my head against the wall. This was getting annoying. I decided to keep being polite, but maybe a bit more laid back.
"Yeah, but there's so many! I haven't even seen them all, but they all seem so interesting. I'm interested in all of the ones I've seen, but I'm not sure where I'd fit in." She nodded and took yet another pause. "Check out all the clubs, then message me on Kaobook. Look up Ayano Aishi. I'll be able to help you make a choice." Finally, she walked into the courtyard.
I audibly sighed out of relief, I didn't have to make awkward conversation with a creepy stranger. I practically skipped up to the second floor. I found an incredibly small library, smaller than the classrooms. there was already someone in there, so I turned the corner and found a silent room. I looked at the sign that labeled the room, "The Art Club".
I peeked through the window, wondering if I'd be alone in there, and I saw nobody. It was a laid back art room. I slid the door open and walked in. As to be expected, the air smelled of paint and clay. Now drawn to the room, I stepped in and shut the door.
I decided to go to a corner of the room and listen to music, but as I came closer to it, I saw another person here who I didn't see before. He was hidden by the canvas he was painting on. I stopped walking, caught off guard by his presence. I must had made a noise, because he turned around.
Our eyes instantly locked. He was a tall, freckly boy with bright red hair, and glassy eyes behind a pair of rectangular glasses with blue frames. There was just something about him that astounded me. We stared at each other. I noticed his spotted cheeks slowly grow pink.
"Lovely." he muttered. "Would you sit right here and let me paint you?" I got a warm feeling in my chest. Even if I tried, I wouldn't be able to tell him no. "Yeah," I said with a soft smile. "Sorry for coming in here without permission," I sheepishly mentioned as I looked to the window in the door. "I was trying to find an empty room." I turned my gaze back to him.
"Don't worry about it, You're a good model." He seemed to be fixated on me. I mean, I can't say that I wasn't fixated on him too. I sat down in front of him.
