I was already planning on fawning over Spike, but the fact that Geiju got him for me made me so happy. "I don't mind at all..!" I told him while he sat down next to me with the baby bunny. "Spike is a really cute name. Thank you for getting him for me, he's so cute!" he smiled at me.
"You know what's weird?" He asked. I shook my head. "This little bunny made all your worries disappear. either you really love bunnies, or you have a very very short attention span." he said with a laugh. I smiled at his joke, but we both knew we were trying to forget it."Haha," I managed to get out, trying to get the image of it out of my head. "He's a baby bunny, one of my favorite animals. of course you know that. you're too thoughtful." Although I meant what I said, I felt guilty for not acknowledging Miyuji's death...or at least out loud. I didn't want to talk about it, but I couldn't find a reason why. Maybe it was just too soon.
He smiled when I told him how thoughtful he was. He never forgot a thing about me, it made me feel so special. The way he looked at me and smiled made my heart do a dumb thing where It feels like its beating super fast but not beating at all at the same time. My mixed feelings of guilt and pining awkwardness was confusing. I really didn't know how I was supposed to feel.
"Let me know when you want to leave," He said as his face was getting red. "I'd feel better about you leaving if I walked you home, though...but, um... you can stay here for the night if you'd like..." I was about to fucking die, this really cute and sweet boy just offered to walk me home and then somehow made it even better by inviting me to stay the night.
I could tell how nervous Geiju was to invite me over. my first thought was "Holy fuck does he like me?" I didn't want to pass this up. "A sleepover would be fun. We could watch that movie you were talking about." He smiled.
"Yeah, and if you want, I could show you around town in the morning. You could borrow my sister's clothes. she's away at college." I really just wanted to hug him. This could be a good way to distract us both from what happened that day as well. "Thank you, that's really sweet. Maybe I could help you figure out what to assign to the rest of the art club." Geiju stood up and nodded. "That would be a major help. Thank you."
We played video games for hours. I won most rounds, but he beat me a lot too. He really seemed to like playing. He never stopped smiling. I realized that he was a really good distraction. Keeping each other company kept us both from thinking about what happened earlier.
I couldn't believe how fast I caught feelings for him. I don't think I could be happier when I'm with him. The longer we were in each other's presence, the harder I fell for him. We became friends so quickly, we seemed to be getting closer every minute. It sounds all fancy right now but it's usually just "oop my heart he's so cute" when I'm with him.
Geiju and I decided to bake desserts and make instant bubble tea for dinner because we were both in the mood for baking and sweet foods. we decided to make taiyaki and eat some matcha ice cream mochi from his freezer.
After the dessert/dinner thing, we were playing Super Smash Bros. and talking about what had happened at school. We figured that we were going to talk about it eventually.
"Do you think they got her?" He asked, not taking his eyes from the screen. "Who, the police?" I asked in reply. "They probably did. Let me check the news." I paused the game and look looked up "murder at local high school". I found results for "murder-suicide" instead. My eyes widened and I showed Geiju the screen.
"Holy fuck... they're both dead." I whispered. He was staring at my phone with a hand over his mouth. He read the headline, squinted, and read it again as if he misread it. We looked at each other, then there was a knock on the door.
He told me to stay where I was. He walked over to the the door and looked through the peephole. "It's a few policemen. I think they're here to question us.
Geiju opened the door and invited them in. They sat down on his sofa, next to me. They asked for some water and asked if we were students at Akademi. Then they asked if we were present at school earlier.
We answered all of their questions, but they never seemed to stop. "Did you witness the murder-suicide?" "Do you have any idea why ms. Ronshaku had been absent from school for most of the week?" It was really only then that it really set in. Two people died at my school. It wasn't just shock anymore, it was dread and devastation.
"Now, we've also been told by the coach at Akademi that you two fled rom campus after direct instruction to stay." One of the cops said with a stern tone. Ah, shit. "of course, your coach didn't know about your reason to leave so abruptly, but you also should have stayed anyway, this way, we wouldn't have to come here and question you." He scolded us further, but eventually, the cops left. Geiju and I didn't care about the rules, but agreed because we didn't really have a choice.
After that, we were just tired. We tried to play the game some more, but we were both pretty done for the day. The cops basically sucked the life out of the house, taking our energy with them.
He let me sleep in his sister's room. He gave me one of his shirts to sleep in and a pair of his sister's pajama shorts. It was really sweet, but I still couldn't sleep. "So much for being drained," I thought, pissed at myself for not being able to sleep. Now, I had to think about the murder-suicide. I had stayed there for what seemed like forever until I gave up trying to sleep and got up to go see if Geiju was still awake.
I opened the door, and I saw him standing in the doorway to his room, too. There was a silence until he asked "did you want to hang out in my room?" I felt my face get hot.
"Yeah," I sighed. "I couldn't sleep either."
