Annabeth never expected this to happen
---
"How about this one?" Asked Piper, pointing at a small box on her laptop screen. Annabeth rolled over beside her to see what she was referring to. "Not another library internship," she complained. "Fine," Piper put her hands up in surrender, "but what are you interested in?" "I'll know it when I see it," she huffed. Earlier this morning, Annabeth had asked Piper to help her find a summer job. Now that she was eighteen, she believed she could survive well enough outside of camp. Annabeth also had decided that it was best that she begin to live her life without constant fear. So far, Piper had only been helpful in finding nerdy internships. "Bingo!" The daughter of Aphrodite yelled. Annabeth once again set down a pamphlet advertising a job at some coffee shop and peeked over her shoulders. "A Stark Internship?" Annabeth questioned. "I'm good, but not that good."
Piper set the computer on her bunk. "Sure you are! Please just try it."
"Fine. But if I don't make it, you are on dish duty for a month!" grinned Annabeth, snatching the advert out of Piper's hands.
Annabeth brushed down her jacket, and let out a nervous breath she didn't know she was holding. Today was the day of the SI interview, and this was probably the most nervous she'd ever been, barring when she turned up for her first day of renovating Olympus. And this was just to deal with a bunch of mortals. She composed herself and walked into the building.
Piper had insisted on picking out her outfit, making Annabeth wonder if she was going to be late. Upon glancing at a nearby clock, she realized she still had five minutes to spare. She hesitantly reached for the silver handle and pulled open the door leading into the lobby. A gust of cold air hit her as she stepped into the air-conditioned building.
"Name?" A brunette woman spoke without glancing up from whatever she was typing on her computer.
"Annabeth Chase," she replied, proud that her voice didn't waver.
"Ms Potts will see you in ten minutes."
Annabeth was left unsure what to do so she took a seat in a nearby chair, like the kind they have in doctor's office waiting rooms.
Annabeth was too nervous to touch the magazines carefully laid out on the table beside her. Her fear grew even more when a man with neatly cropped black hair tapped her on her shoulder.
"Ms Chase, please follow me," he instructed, tapping his clipboard with a ballpoint pen. Seeing the pen reminded her of Percy, which was silly considering the two pens looked nothing alike.
He walked towards a tinted door to the left of the reception desks and pushed open the door for her.
"After you."
