PROLOGUE
The cold tears trickled down my cheeks, sending a chill up my spine. Gasping, I reach the surface. I feel an icy hand push me down before I can get even half a breath. I scream for help, but my lungs just fill with water. I scramble to cling to anything, and I reach the edge of the pool with my tiny hands. The blurry world above the water begins to disappear, as if into thin air, and for a moment, I feel nothing.
I hear screams from my father. He pushes my mother to the ground, and throws himself into the pool to get me.
"Rylee! Rylee! Wake up! Baby, you need to wake up!" He's shaking me by now. I can hear the words around me, but it's like my ears are closing up on me. I soon hear less and less.
"Rylee! Rylee! Ryl--" I completely blank out.
