(Xena POV)

I was jolted awake as my body slammed against an extremely hard object. Before I could react, I was flung once again into the back of something else. My surroundings were unknown. Darkness and wailing sirens bum-rushed my senses. My head ached and throbbed from the undeniable pain radiating from the side of it. I reached up to graze the wounded area and winced upon contact. I retracted my hand and noticed the blood dripping from my fingers. Panic and fury instantly washed over me.

Who the hell were these people? And what did they want from my Father? I tried to recall what transpired. However, my thoughts were clouded by a pounding headache.

I groggily sat up and managed to sneak a glimpse of the environment. Although my vision was blurred, there were three things I knew for certain.

One, I was in the trunk of an Escalade.

Two, we were currently on the run from the police.

And three, my father and I were now hostages of these assholes.

Further examining my surroundings, I noticed there were a total of 5 strangers. Two of them, guarded my father like their life depended on it. One even had his weapon lodged into his side. Another one drove the vehicle, while the other sat in the passenger seat. The last person sat on a seat by herself silently typing on her computer. With each approaching intersection, the lights would change in our favor. It seemed as if she was controlling the lights and flow of traffic.

I glanced down at my wrists and the realization hit me harder than a slap to the face. My hands, although covered with dried blood, were unbound. I peeked over the seat once again, analyzing just how much of a shit storm my father and I were in. This whole situation seemed too planned, too well executed to be random.

There had to be a reason and I needed to figure it out quickly.

Our Lives depended on it.

While lost in thought, a sharp whizzing noise passed my ear.

"Ahhh!," I screamed and ducked as a bullet flew past my head. It shattered the glass of the back window into a million pieces.

"Damn it, Ember! Your big ass head made me miss" the man riding in the passenger seat declared as he reloaded his weapon.

A strong gust instantly rushed into the vehicle. The police sirens were now louder and clearer than ever. My heart pounded into my throat. I covered my head with my hands and fell onto the carpeted floor.

"Come on," I inwardly encouraged myself.

Forcing myself to concentrate, I pulled at my brain to grace me with an idea, just one. I had only one chance at this.

My father was the only person I had left, and I couldn't lose him

Gunshots rang out, both automatic and semi, leaving a deafening ring in my ears. The tires of the cop cars behind us could be heard screeching and sliding in attempt to keep up with us. Their car engines roared. However, although very prominent, the intensity of the sounds slowly began to dissipate as the distance grew between us.

We were losing them.

The speed of the Suv began to decrease as we pulled quickly into an alley way off the street. Police cars rushed past, allowing us to remain hidden. However, there were a few cars and helicopters still patrolling the area.

This was my opportunity.

I had to be quick, it was now or never.

Peeking over the seat from the trunk, I locked eyes with my father.

"I'll be back for you" I mouthed.

He lowered his head in response.

A single tear slid down my cheek. I couldn't have known if I was going to make it back in time with help for him. I certainly couldn't have known if I, myself, was even going to make it.

I had to try.

I quickly snatched off my heels, aiming for the wannabe Alpha male sitting in the passenger seat. I chucked a heel as hard as I could at the back of his head.

"Yo what the fu-" he growled out as he turned around.

As he turned around, the other heel met his eye. I quickly got down on the floor of the trunk and began kicking the soft spots of the car, right where the taillights were located. As I kicked it open, I pulled the taillight through the hole I'd made.

"Ember get this bitch now", the angry passenger demanded.

The very pretty, well-kept, petite, curly, blonde-haired girl in the backseat snapped her head around to face me and instantly began crawling over the seat towards me. She pulled out the gun strapped to her waist and aimed it at me.

Panicking, I threw the taillight at her. As the taillight contacted her face, I quickly shoved my hand through the hole and yanked open the trunk. I managed to pull my hand out just as the trunk flew open.

"Fuck!", the girl now known as Ember screeched. I took a deep breath and leaped out of the SUV. I yelped as a sharp pain spread through my abdomen. A breath of air escaped my body, as I rolled onto the pavement. Groaning in pain, I tried to rise to my feet. The main road was only a few feet away. If I could just there everything would be okay.

I have to get there.

I need to get there.

"Help, help," I shouted while struggling to stand.

"Someone help," I tried again.

I somehow managed to stumble onto my feet, but immediately fell back down as if I were drunk.

"Police, help!" I croaked out through my tears.

Although feeling drowsy and sluggish, I continued crawling towards freedom. Looking down, I noticed a trail of blood.

"What the hell?", I questioned.

A burning, crippling sensation spread throughout my stomach growing outwardly.

I felt so cold.

My vision was growing darker with each passing second, as my eyes were closing. Yet, memories of my life and father flooded my brain. My consciousness was slipping away.

"Dad", I murmured.

I succumbed to the depths of darkness, the pain slipping away.
