Chapter 1
✩°̥࿐୨୧

Present Day

AURORA LENOX SIGHED DEEPLY AS she grabbed a box out of her car and began to carry it inside of her new apartment in Mystic Falls. It had been over one hundred years since she had stepped foot into the small town in Virginia. When she had heard of the deaths of Stefan and Damon Salvatore, she had sworn to never go near there again. Never was a long time when you'd been alive as long as she had. A perk to being the soulmate to a vampire. she thought to herself.

After she had lived for sixty years, she had contacted a witch who was said to have answers. The witch had looked at the girl in pity and told her that her other half was an immortal being, that was why it was taking so long to find him. Aurora had left the place in shock. She would've never guessed that creatures like vampires existed. But she should've know there was more to the world than she had assumed. After that day, she had ran into multiple vampires, and even befriended a few, but none of them were her soulmate.

She sat the heavy box, that was filled with her clothing from over the years, on the kitchen counter in her small apartment. She hummed a tune to herself as she headed outside to get another box.

Her apartment wasn't anything extravagant, in fact, it was the complete opposite. She had found a cheap, simple apartment a few miles away from the center of Mysic Falls. It was perfect for her as she wasn't planning on staying very long.

The only reason she was back in Mystic Falls was because she had heard that it was a supernatural hot spot. Even though she had almost given up completely on finding her soulmate, a part of her still hoped that she would one day find him. So, naturally, she had moved to a place that she hoped he would show up at.

Aurora had finally unloaded all of the boxes from her car to the inside of her apartment. She put her hands on her hips and breathed deeply. All the moving she had done in the past few days was starting to take a toll on her. She grabbed her keys and headed out to her car. As much as she would love to take a nap, she needed to explore the town and see where everything was at.

She took in all the sights as she headed towards town, everything was much different than from what she remembered. She couldn't help but wonder if the Salvatore Estate was still standing. She would have to find it and check it out before she left. She pulled into the parking lot of the Mystic Grill and parked her car.

As she walked inside, she didn't even bother to look around at everybody. She just found herself a table and made herself comfortable. She inhaled deeply and then exhaled as she finally looked around the bar. Her eyes narrowed when she saw someone that looked vaguely familiar sitting at the counter. Before she could get a good look, a blonde boy with blue eyes stood in front of her, blocking her vision.

"What can I get for you?" he asked as he put his pen up to the notepad he was carrying.

"Could I just get some fries?" she asked.

The boy nodded his head and jotted down some words, "Of course. I'll have it right out to you."

"Thank you," she glanced down to his name tag, "Matt." He gave her a smile and then walked away. The second he was out of view, she looked back over to the counter where she had seen the ebony haired man, but he wasn't there. She pursed her lips and sighed. She figured that being back in Mystic Falls had her imagining things, because there was no way Damon Salvatore was alive. . . right?

Just as soon as that thought came, she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye. She looked towards the direction of the movement and her eyes widened at the sight. In front of her stood the man she thought she would never see again. "Damon?" she whispered in disbelief.

"Aurora?" he asked, his tone matching hers. "How are you. . . ? You're still . . . ? But you're human!" he kept his voice low as to not draw attention from the other tables as he sat down in front of her.

"I've not found my soulmate yet." Aurora explained, "Human? Does that mean that you're a vampire?" she said in a hushed tone.

He shot her a look of sympathy and then nodded his head. He then looked around the room before speaking again, "Maybe we shouldn't talk about this here." he said. "Do you want to go back to my place with me?"

"Already taking me home with you? You should really learn to buy a girl a drink first." she teased with a wink. It may have been over a hundred years since she had seen her friend, but they were easily falling back into the same playful friendship they had when they were younger.

"How about I give you a drink once we get to my house?" Damon replied with a small smile. He was absolutely shocked to see his old friend, but he couldn't help but feel extremely happy. After everything that was happening in his life with Stefan and Elena, it felt nice to finally have someone he knew would be on his side of things.

"Deal." She said as her pink lips spread into a wide smile. She had spent years feeling absolutely and utterly alone, but now she finally had a friend.
