The sound of the chalk scraping along the blackboard sends unnecessary sudders down my spine. I shiver and close my eyes.
"Open your eyes Ilias" commands Professor Ried, I open them staring straight at him.
"Don't look at me", he nods to the right "look towards your enermy".I slowly uncurl the fists at my sides, and turned towards the right to the potrait of too familar eyes staring back at my soul. My enemy, and has been for the last 5 years. Has been my enemy since the day he killed them in cold blood.
I try not to betray any emotions flooding through me right now. I knew Professor Reid was assessing every move I made.
"What do you feel when you look at him?" he asked, tapping on the potrait.
"Anger. Fury. I want to kill him" I reply.
He shakes his head. "you cannot think like that or else you won't be able to complete your mission".
I avert my gaze from the infuriating picture of him and stare at my professor.
"He's not going to read my mind, sir" it's an effort to not clench my teeth.
"Your body will betray you. One clench of a fist, a tight jawline from clenching your teeth, your body falling rigid. He won't be able to read your mind but he will notice your body language Ilias." Reid sighs and sits gracefully on the chair facing me.Reid was always so graceful. He was good at everything and it pissed Celia Ilias the first day she met him, all awkard limbs - still growing into her body and features. She was no longer awkward, no longer tripping on her own feet. She had grown into her own body. Had trained to be swift and quick on her feet.
He stares at me with his blue eyes, "your so close". I swallow and it's an effort to look at him in the eye. I hated disappointing myself, but hated even more even the idea of disappointing and letting down Reid. "I know" is the only response I can think of.
He nods and stands up, "I want you to practise clearing your thoughts. If a portrait of him unerves you, you are most definitely not ready to meet him face to face."
