The Vinyl Disc swirled on the record player, playing a sweet and melodious tune of Songbird by Fleetwood Mac
"For you, there'll be no more crying. For you, the sun will be shining. And I feel that when I'm with you, it's alright, I know it's right." The lady sang along, blissfully, as she worked. She tucked a strand of her golden brown hair behind her ear, continuing to arrange the flowers in the vase. She looked to be in her mid-twenties. She wore a clean white apron and white gloves. A fulltime caregiver with an angelic voice. God knows how much she wanted to be a singer, but oh well, not all dreams always come true. Being a singer just didn't seem realistic. So now she worked at the Clarence orphanage, Nevada.
The orphanage house was fairly large. The family room, where she was working, had wooden floors with a high ceiling. A fire crackled merrily at the other end of the room, in front of it two armchairs and a rug. The staircase to the children's rooms was perpendicular to the fire, being old and wooden creaked at the step.
It was very early in the morning. While all the children slept upstairs, She walked around preparing breakfast and cleaning up. She sighed, peering outside, seeing the heavy rain.
Gee, It hasn't rained like this in a long time. She thought to herself. It was true, it had not rained this heavily in a long time, It seemed like Rain God had taken some time off to spend with his family or just didn't feel like it, Nevertheless, It was raining now and she was happy for it. One could hear the soft pitter-patter of rain on the roof. It was one of the most soothing sounds to her. As she was daydreaming about the days when it did rain, The doorbell suddenly rang.
BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Completely taken back by this, she wondered who would visit the orphanage this early in the morning, At such an odd hour. To even have a visitor was odd since no one came around these parts. The area around the orphanage was not very safe.
She audibly sighed, walking towards the door, opened and there stood a strange person. He was wearing a long overcoat, A black fedora, and glasses, His face wasn't discernable, it was hidden under the shadow of the fedora, and he was holding a baby
"Hello-"
"I do not have time," he said wincing and in a rather heavy voice like he was in intense pain. "Take him.." He said handing her the baby,
"Whose-"
"His Name-" he said his voice straining, he was barely able to speak,"-Is Lucas Langdon Brown." He gave her a brown moleskin notebook, which he took out of his coat and a green emerald locket. "These are his-" He groaned in pain
"Sir are you alright."
"IM-fine, I'm fine, these are his only possessions."
"Sir wait-" She turned around and put the notebook and locket on a table near and she turned back around to look at the stranger but he was gone. Disappeared into thin air.
She hurried back inside and shut the door behind her. She looked down at the baby. The hazel eyed baby cooed at her holding his arms out. She smiled at him, taking him in her arms. He grabbed her nose and started giggling. "Lucas Brown, huh?" she said rocking the baby gently, as he drifted into a delicious slumber.
