Chapter 2

I woke up early and jumped out of bed and got dressed and ran out the door down to Graces house and when I got there I was huffing and puffing and had to try gasping for air. I knocked on the door ‘Knock, Knock’ and I waited for the door to open and for Grace to be on the other side. But when the door opened it wasn’t Grace who was on the other side it was her mum who invited me in. “Grace is in her room” Grace’s mum said while giving me a smile.

I walked down the hall way and Graces room was the last door at the end of the hall way. The door was part way open so I slowly pushed it open and saw Grace laying in her bed still asleep. I tried waking her up by pulling her blanket off her “Grace come on time to get up” I said while nudging her with my hand still trying to wake her up.

“Jasmine why do I need to get up” Grace asked me still sounding half asleep. “Because you have to see the sky its different at the moment you can still see the moon even though the sun is up and the sky is full of orange, purple, pink and blue, it will look so good if we go to the lake” I said trying to convince my half asleep friend to get out of bed.

Grace didn’t get up but instead went straight back to sleep so I covered her back up with her blanket and quietly left her room closing the door behind me. It was strange that she didn’t want to get out of bed to look at the sky with me.

I walked down the hall way and into the lounge room were Graces mum was sitting in a chair with a cup of tea in her hand and was talking to another woman from the pack.

“Grace wouldn’t get up” I said with a little sadness in my voice. “Well that’s strange that Grace didn’t get up she always gets up to go out early with you in the mornings” Grace’s mum said with a little confusion in her voice.

I walked out the front door waving good bye as I left. I walked through the village and not many people were up only the hunters were up and their wives, I was always the first to be up apart from the hunters.

I walked over to the hunters and tried to find my dad amongst them so I could wish him good luck with the hunt, but just as I spotted him they all left in a hurry.

I felt alone now my dad had left to go on a hunt and my best friend was still in bed. I stood there for about 5 minutes not knowing what to do with myself. I looked up to the sky and saw that it still had the pretty colours in it.

I turned around and I started to make my towards the lake I knew that Grace wouldn’t be able to see it with me but I still wanted go, walked with speed in my steps and tried to go unnoticed as I left the safety of the village.

I made it to the line of trees that surrounded the village so I knew that no one from the village would be able to see me I slowed down my steps. I walked through the trees enjoying the smell of the trees and the sounds of birds singing in the trees and the feel of the suns raise that made it through the tree tops and made it to the ground.

I eventually made it to the lake just in time to see the sky as the colours were disappearing and the sky was turning blue.

I sat next to the lake looking at my own reflection in the water and watching the fish as they swam around in the water.

‘Snap’ I turned around to see what had made the twig snap and saw a black wolf, who’s head I could just see sticking out from the trees. I froze not knowing what to do, because he was a black wolf I knew that he had to be a Death Lander that coat colour is something only the Death Landers can have as well as their grey coats.

I looked at the tree that me and Grace usually climbed I was wondering if I would be able to make it to the tree before the wolf would tear me to shreds. I decided to try and make it to the tree and as soon as I made a move the wolf came racing out from the trees and started chasing after me as I ran.

I made it to the tree and climbed up as fast as I could and I made it into the tree just in time. The wolf started to attempt to jump up the tree and attempted to climb but the male wolf couldn’t climb.

I was shaking in fear as the wolf started to circle around the bottom of the tree. He was growling fearsly as he walked around the bottom of the tree. He stopped circling and sat at the bottom of the tree just staring into my eyes.

His eyes were blue and stood out like the moon at night. I couldn’t help but star into his eyes they had me entranced.

Then I heard more noises and the wolf got up “Don’t come out of that tree and don’t make any noises” I heard a voice say as the wolf stared into my eyes. I was shocked to hear a Death Lander’s voice in my head.

Then he walked off and I noticed what the other noises were and I watched as more wolves walked out from the trees and met up with the Black wolf. I tried to stay hidden and quiet just as he wanted me to. Why would a Death Lander warn me and why would he not want his pack to know I was here it’s something that they simple don’t do. He was just chasing me and now he was warning me.

The wolves that emerged from the trees were all grey and there were two of them. One had dark grey patches against his lighter grey fur, the other one had a plain grey coat they their coats were in bad condition and they had branches and leaves all through.

They couldn’t see me thank goodness but I could see them through the tree branches. I watched as they were talking to one another.

The two grey males started arguing with the black wolf, the black wolf growled at them and they stopped arguing with him straight away. The grey wolves turned around and started to walk back into the forest and as they went they started to fight amongst themselves.

The black wolf walked back over to the bottom of the tree I was in and stared up at me with his blue eyes. “Why did you warn me about your friends?” I asked hoping I would be able to understand him again.

“Are you a Grass Lander or a human?” I heard his voice in my head again.

His question made my mind think, if I told him then he might try killing me again, but he is a Death Lander and will kill me anyway. Without thinking I answered him, ”yes I am are you going to kill me because of that?”.

“I haven’t decided yet” his voice once again in my head and he stepped back away from the tree. He growled at me which made me even more nervous about getting down out of the tree.

I don’t know why I decided to but I climbed down out of the tree and landed on the ground just in front of the black wolf. This Death Lander now had my life in his paws in just a matter of seconds he could kill me.
