14 years, that's how long it's been since that day. The day you were supposed to duel Musashi Miyamoto, at least that's what would've happened had he not kept you waiting. Yeah, instead of waiting all day for Musashi you waited until about noon and then left to do something else. Every now and then you think back to that, chuckling when you imagine Musashi's expression, if he even showed up that is. But that is in the past, and past disappointments are not something you wish to ruminate upon. Right now you're returning to a temple somewhere in the mountains. the people there showed you hospitality once and you were coming back with a gift to thank them for their generosity. Curiously, the temple seemed to be abandoned when you arrived.
Kojiro: Hello? Inamami, Uzuwara? Are you here? It's Kojiro, I wanted to thank you for the food.
After searching the inside you found no signs of life, almost as if there hasn't been anyone there in at least a year. Confused, you looked out back and found the burial mounds, tears pricked the corners of your eyes.
Kojiro: I see, so that's what happened.
You left the box of wooden figures you carved for them and continued on your journey. Looking at the other mountain in the distance.
Kojiro: I should check on that old man with the mask. Make sure he's hasn't become a victim too.
[Timeskip]
You spent the last couple of days making your way to the house of the old man you met a couple years ago. You think you've heard somewhere that he had taken on a new student.
Kojiro: I hope they're okay.
You stopped for a second to look at the horizon and see the sun just as it set.
Kojiro: Looks nice, *gets startled by noises coming from nearby brush* This probably isn't the best place to be admiring the sunset.
Your pace quickened but ultimately you decided to not travel at night and stayed the night in a makeshift hut, praying that it would keep you hidden until morning.
The next day you awoke to the sound of wind chimes.
Kojiro: *sleepy* Wha?
Pushing over the cone of sticks, you saw the back of someone heading in the same direction as you, shrugging it off you followed. Finally reaching the house you caught the tail end of a monologue about a sword.
Kojiro: Wait a minute, I know that voice. If Haganaezuka is here then that means the old man did take a new student. Maybe I should wait for him to leave, I don't need to extend his visit here. Especially since he hasn't forgiven me for breaking his first odachi.
???: *in distress* What are you doing! Hey, let go! Ouch! Please, Stop! How old are you anyway!?
Haganaezuka: I'm 37!
Kojiro: *eye roll* Could've fooled me.
A crow flew by and the sounds of struggle stopped.
Crow: Tanjiro Kamado, I bring you orders. You must go to a town northwest of here, and hurry! Young girls are disappearing! Night after night, at least one of them vanishes. You must hunt down the demon responsible and destroy it. Tanjiro Kamado, prepare yourself well, this is your first assignment as a member of the Demon Slayer corps.
Kojiro: So the student's name is Tanjiro. Well, I know what I'm doing now.
You waited for Haganezuka and the boy you assumed to be Tanjiro to leave, knocking on the old man's door to give him a gift and before you knew it you were also heading to the northwest town.
Kojiro: So Urokodaki was his name, good to know if I ever stop by again. Hopefully I'm not making a mistake by deciding to follow this kid. Who am I kidding, either way I meet someone and get to see a new sword technique in action.
And so you went forward with enthusiasm in your step, not quite realizing how strange thing would get, traveling with a demon slayer.
[To be continued]
There we go. The first real chapter. Hope you enjoyed it, I know I enjoyed writing it. I'm gonna go to sleep because it's 2AM see you next time.
