I sat outside on the grass, a delicate azure sky above me, dotted with puffy white clouds of all shapes and sizes. I felt the warm sunshine on my skin and the breeze in my golden-blonde hair. I was at my favourite spot, a cliff that overlooked a majestic valley bellow, filled with towering evergreen trees that surrounded a beautiful crystal-clear lake, sparkling ever so brightly in the sunlight.

I was patiently awaiting the company of my boyfriend, Chase, gazing at the multitude of daises that surrounded me. The sound of rapid footsteps, followed by a deep, yet cheerful voice interrupted my train of thought.

"Hey, sorry to keep you waiting!"

It was Chase. I turned to him, a grin on my face. He was breathing heavily, a bead of sweat on his forehead. I could tell he had most likely sprinted here. Nonetheless, I was glad to see him. "That's alright!" I replied jubilantly. He placed himself beside me and smoothly put an arm around my shoulders as I leaned into the crook of his neck. I could feel his heart beating swiftly, and his muscular, tanned arms around me, holding me close. Keeping me safe. He gently kissed the top of my forehead, his lips soft against my flaxen locks. Upon his touch, I felt warm and fuzzy inside.

Turning to him and releasing myself from his sturdy arms, I caught myself gazing into his delicate hazel eyes, which were dotted with gold specks that made them all the more mesmerizing. He smiled, sensing my appreciative glance. "You're so beautiful." He reached a hand to my face, and gingerly touched my rosy, sun-kissed, freckled cheeks, stroking them ever-so gently. He then pulled me in and our lips met each other. He kissed me with love and passion, and I felt so alive, with his mouth against mine. Our moment seemed to last for an eternity.

Later, I found myself laying with my head on his chest as we both watched the delicate clouds in the blue sky, engaging in light conversation, the humming of insects and the chirping of birds echoing in the distance. Chase said the funniest things, he was quite the character. He was naturally goofy, the type of individual who possessed the rare ability to make anyone fall on the ground in a fit of laughter without even trying. When we spent our days together, sitting in the verdant green grass, was when I was truly the most joyful. Little did I know that feeling- utter, undeniable, immense happiness, would soon vanish instantaneously, only to be replaced by fear and bewilderment. Sadly, it was inevitable.

As the bright tangerine sun began to lower in the sky, I knew it was late afternoon. "Well, I suppose we outta head back to the village now." Chase advised, his honey eyes studying the position of the bright orb that hung in the sky. "Yes, my mother will be wondering where I went off to. I wouldn't want to worry her, lord knows she's quite an anxious sort." I responded, standing up. Chase leapt up as well, brushing his pants off before the two of us strolled on the winding, dirt path back towards the place that we both called home, a minuscule village known as Zugspitzen which was nestled deep within the northern mountains. The population was roughly 600 people and the village wasn't anything to marvel at, it was humble and had remained relatively unchanged for the last hundred years or so. It was home though and it was all I knew, as there weren't any other towns at this high of an altitude, the nearest being at least 10 kilometers away, which was a rather imposing trek on foot alone. Our only other means of transportation, of course, was via horse.

When I said that things remained unchanged, well, that was the blatant truth.

As we strolled about the sky began to grow darker with each passing minute, as billowing grey clouds began to loom over the setting sun. I could sense that a storm was in the foreseeable future, brewing at an increased pace with each step we took. Just then, out of the blue, I heard the sound of a heavy thud. Initially, I didn't think anything of it, assuming it was thunder and that perhaps I should get into the weather predicting industry. However, the sound became louder and louder I realized it was the echo of heavy footsteps and not thunder.
