Bakugou was leaning back against the railing that separated the beach's sand and the sidewalk, his hands shoved aggressively inside his jean pockets. Kirishima was next to him awkwardly, he was dressed in pretty casual clothing, a denim jacket that he'd borrowed from Kaminari draped over his broad shoulders. He was checking his phone nervously and scanning the people walking past them, twiddling his thumbs with impatience. Where are you, Kaminari? Kirishima had suggested that the three of them should hang out at the boardwalk before summer ended, but, due to some extra classes Kaminari had to attend in order to pass his second year, Kirishima had insisted on waiting for Kaminari, not wanting to leave his less academically-gifted friend behind. Kirishima and Bakugou had arrived on time, but Kaminari hadn't shown up yet and Bakugou's rope was at its end.
Right before Bakugou, who was at this point shaking with annoyance, was about to bark at Kirishima and ask whether Kaminari was going to show up or not, Kaminari came skipping across the crosswalk, a wide grin plastered on his face. Thank the gods, Bakugou was about to bite my head off!
Once Kaminari was completely on the other side of the crosswalk, he spoke, "Hey, guys! Sorry I'm late, I got the directions you sent me all mixed up an-"
"Shove it, loser! Let's go get something to eat, I'm freaking starving!" Bakugou snapped before turning around and trudging towards the entrance of the boardwalk. Kirishima swore he could see curls of smoke coming out of Bakugou's ears.
Kaminari let out a whimper and seemed to instantly be drained of all of his usual positive energy, "Man, that's cold, Bakugou," he whined, his lips now pursed into a pout as he turned to Kirishima, who had ignored Bakugou's lashing out.
"Glad to have your company, man, let's go eat!" Kirishima said, patting Kaminari cheerfully as a way of reassuring his friend, "Cmon, man, you should be used to this by now," he said, his voice now at a more hushed volume, elbowing him softly as the two boys followed after their ill-tempered friend.
I know Bakugou's a super tough guy to get along with, but you're smarter than this, Kaminari, Kirishima thought, maybe not when it comes to academics, but still!
Kaminari seemed to bounce back after his friend's comforting reassurance, his posture now back to normal and his eyes lively once again. Before he could thank Kirishima, however, Bakugou turned his head and stopped, causing Kaminari to bump into him and stumble.
"What're you two punks mumbling about back there, huh?" he said, grabbing Kaminari by the collar and shaking him like a toy, his brows more furrowed than ever now. Kaminari yelped and put his hands up in front of himself, waving them about. Kirishima sighed, rolling his eyes and putting his hand on Bakugou's shoulder. Cmon!
"Chill out, Bakugou! Let's try to have some fun here, alright?" he said, "Put Kaminari down and let's go find something to snack on or something. What's with you tonight?" he asked, his gaze now more concerned than annoyed. It was hard to focus in general without raising your voice, the yells of people of all ages having fun and the flashing neon lights of the pier causing almost anyone's brain into a whir.
"Fine." Bakugou grumbled, setting Kaminari down before being caught by Kirishima. He shrugged his shoulders and turned around, holding up his hand as a signal for Kirishima and Kaminari to follow him, "Cmon, you two, I don't have time for this crap," he sighed as Kirishima and Kaminari exchanged worried looks.
After a moment, the two boys quickly brushed themselves off before following close behind Bakugou, both of them now worried to tick him off again if they fell too far behind. Kirishima was lost in thought as they walked behind Bakugou, staring at the well-worn wooden planks below him.
