"Mo-ommmmmm," Your little brother Niki whined, kicking your seat. "Are we there yet?"

"No, stupid," You shoot back. "Stop kicking my seat."

"You stop playing your stupid K-Pop."

Your mom gripped the steering wheel a harder. "Both of you, stop arguing."

"Yes, mom," you muttered.

Niki nodded, then flashed you an angelic smile.

"And for the love of God, turn off that noise music!"

You shut off your music, cutting Baekhyun's high note in half. It wasn't your fault your earbuds broke two states back, halfway through California.

Niki went back to silently pressing his knees against your seat.

You looked out the windows. The sky was darkening quickly, and the fog rolled in from the sea, covering everything with a thick gray mist. The outsides of the windows dripped with condensation. In any case, being able to see wouldn't've helped. All there was, as far as you could tell, were mountains and trees and mountains and trees and more trees.

You moved around and your back cracked loudly.

"Turn right in 1.3 miles," the GPS announced. The robotic voice had been the only source of sanity inside of the little car. You miss the cheap motel of Nevada- you had left at seven in the morning and had been on the road almost fourteen hours. At least then, with the too cold room that smelled of mildew, you could move around. Now it was sitting with Niki's bony knees stabbing into your back like knives.

"Can you please stop?" You asked.

He shook his head and dug his knees further into your seat. You whacked the seat with your elbow, but didn't do anything except hurting your funny bone. "Rat."

"Ugly." Niki replied.

"Don't you have your phone or something?"

Of course he didn't. The battery was dead.

Niki raised his eyebrows.

"Ugh, please move your knees."

"You move your chair forward." Niki had been mad at you for calling shotgun at the very beginning of the trip.

Granted, he was half a foot taller than you, but the laws of dibs were in your favor. Not wanting to argue more with him, you moved your chair forward. Niki held up to his end of the agreement and removed his legs.

You yawned and settled back in your seat, closing your eyes. The quiet surroundings and bumpy road lulled you to sleep.

When you woke up, your mouth tasted like roadkill. You looked at the clock- 9:43 -and blinked the sleep out of your eyes.

"Are we there yet?" You asked groggily.

Your mom made a reaffirming noise. "We're close. Once we get to the Mobil, I'll know the road better."

You nod and take a piece of gum from the pack inside of the cup holder.

Everything was dark, the only light coming from the car's headlights, which only helped you see a little bit.

You see a weathered green sign with the stickers peeling off. Evergreen, Washington.

"We're almost there," Your mom said.

"Mom, why did we have to move this far?" Niki asked, for the millionth time.

"You know why, dumbass."
