Darkness was everywhere. That was the first thing that came to my mind.
Surrounded by darkness, I thought.
I sat up and a wave of nausea quickly washed over me. I couldn't remember anything, not even the littlest of a fuzzy detail. I was laying on a small bed with a light blue quilt spread over the top of it. Then I swung my legs over the side and slowly stood up.
Where am I? I thought.
Once my eyes adjusted, and I could see a little more clearly. I found myself in what looked like a small shack, that was obviously uncared for. I searched the shack until I found a candle. Then I fumbled around some more looking for matches and stopped when I stumbled among a pack. I struck one and lit the candle, so that now there was a small, glimmering light that lit up the room. I walked back to the bed and sat down.
"Why can't I remember anything? Why can't I even remember my name?" I mumbled to myself. What if I don't have one? I thought.
I shuddered at the thought. I found myself in what now looked to be an old, one room cottage. On the other end of the room. From where I now stayed perched on the end of the bed, was a window sized hole in the wall. Next to the hole was a splintering, old door. I slowly made my way back off of the bed, toward the door. As I opened it, there was a crisp breeze that blew into my face, followed by the sharp squeak of the hinges. When I stepped through the doorway I took note of my surroundings, unsure of what waited me.
I stepped out into a thick pine forest teeming with wildlife, crickets chirping, bats fluttering around, and even an owl hooting. I started to wander the forest looking for civilization. I ended up in a clearing and sat down. What am I going to do? Out here alone without any supplies, I won't last long out here. If only I could find someone to help... As if on cue someone landed on top of me. A groan emerged from the heavy block of mass that was now pinning me down.
