CHAPTER FOUR

BOSSOM POV

I had decided to go home to collect my laptop and a few more clothes, I really hope my mom was out. I saw the little board house up a head, I told the driver to stop, paid him and got out. I stood outside of the gate deciding if I should go inside or not. My house was the first on the hillside in the area, my grandma on my mother side had died before I was born. She was the one who had left the house for my mother. The house was a small board house with zinc roof on the top, although it was small it was neat and kept us dry. The windows were painted white with pink curtains inside, there was steps leading up to the veranda, with two chairs on both side of the door and flowers that I had planted to make the place look more beautiful. Deciding to go in I pull the wooden gate went up the stairs. Using the spare key, I had I open the door. When I open the door, I saw my mother cuddled up with a man, probably one of her new catch kissing and dry humming each other. Upon hearing the door open they stopped and looked up at me;(Lord why me?) I thought.
" A Weh yuh a do yah, yuh ready if accepted the offer" my mother said moving from the man to sit up properly.
"Mom I am not in the mood to hear your nonsense right now" I said. Feeling myself getting irritated and about had enough of this day. I walked pass her towards my room, to get my stuff. My room didn't have a door but a curtain, I shift the curtain aside and went in, inside was small with a bed on the side of the room that was neatly spread with floral sheets. At the other side of the room there was a dresser with hair products, lotion, perfume and other stuff on there. I grab a little carry bag I had I stared to pack my clothes.
"Yuh think yuh can talk to me suh, and walk away" my mother said standing at the entrance of my room. I stay silent deciding not to say anything.
" So yuh caa talk now, ehh yuh nuh have nuh manners" she said roughly pushing me. She just doing this to provoke me. Using her bullying nature that she have to get me to do what she what me to do. But today it was not going to work.
" why yuh haffi tell Biggs where I work huh?"I ask turning and met l her cold gaze.
" how yuh mean, the big man pay good money for you, why yuh nuh jus tek him offer eeeh?"she plead in a calm tone taking my hand into hers.
" There is nothing in this world I wouldn't do for you, the last time you tell me to do this, I did it and that left me in a traumatizing state that right now mi still a fight, mom don't you have conscience? Do you have any atom of love for me?" I said hearing my voice cracked and tears sting the back of my eyes. She silently stared at me not saying anything, I pulled my hand out of her grip and turn around and continued what I was doing, since i know I would get any reasonable answer out of her. "DIMOND!! A weh yuh deh, mi a wait fi yuh nuh baby" I heard the man that was in the living room shoutout.
Turning she yell. " Mi a come deh baby". Then she turns back to me.
"Well, I guess yuh customers dem more important than me" I said quietly.
" what sort of foolishness yuh talk eeh gyal, mi put food pon the table, clothes pon yuh back, and a roof over yuh head and yuh think that mi nuh care bout yuh, mi a try fi secure yuh future by setting you up with a money man , him can tek care of yuh" she said with her voice as cold as ice again. I turning back to her again and looked in her light brown eyes I could see that she was high  and wasn't in a good frame of mind to even have a conversation. Knowing fully well it not just marijuana high
" Mom please am not trying to argue with you" I said defeated and trying not to put fuel to the fire that was raging inside of her. She turned and left not saying another word. I finish packing the bag, grab my laptop and head out.
I past my mother back on the couch with the same man doing the same thing that they where doing when I enter earlier, but only this time she didn't even cared to stop. The night air was cool and relaxing, I took a deep feeling very exhausted from today. I decided to take a taxi to nana's because it was very dangerous to walk though these streets at night. When I had reach I got out and paid the taxi man;open the gate and saw that max and Rufus sleeping, some guard dog they are I said to my self. Using the spare key, I open the door when a very delicious scent hit me. I walked into the kitchen there I saw nana over the pot stirring the ackee and saltfish on one side, and on the other side there was yam, sweet potato, and other ingredients that I couldn't see.
" That smell good" I said when she hadn't noticed me. She turn around looking a little bit startled
"Mi neva know seh yuh come back today" she said turning back around to continue what she was doing
"Yeah I just went home to grab some stuff" I told her sitting at the near by seat, putting my stuff on the floor. She turn back around looking at the bag that I was carrying.
" did your mother seh something when you was there" she ask eyes searching my face. As I said before she can read me like an open book
" yeah she being her usual self" I said feeling sad all over just thinking about my mother
" it's going to be ok, nuh worry bout she, fi her time soon come" she said coming over to give me a hug
" Now go and put away your stuff, food soon done and mi have something fi discuss with yuh" she said taking out the plates in the cabinet. I went out the kitchen and to my room across the hall, I entered and started to unpack my things. When I was done I returned back to the kitchen to see nana was putting two plates at the dinner table. I help put the cherry juice on the table, we sat,said our grace and started to eat.
"Mi get a letter from mi daughter Mimi today" nana said taking sip of her juice. Nana never like technology saying it making the younger generation lazy and wokless. So it would be either letter or seeing her in person. Mimi was nana's only daughter. She had two children, a boy who's name is Clifton and her daughter milificent who's nickname is Mimi. Both of her children was overseas who I had never seen in person, But nana talk about them from time to time and show me pictures that they had sent of themselves and their children. Last time nana hear from Mimi was when she sent her a photo of her  wedding pictures of her marrying some rich man white man abroad.
" Really wah she seh" I asked taking a bite out of my yam
" She said that she and Clifton is having a family reunion and she want me to meet the whole family" she said
"Wow that would be good nana, a long time Yuh nuh see them" I said
"Yeah, it would be nice fi see dem again after such a long time and mi want yuh fi come with mi" she said.
"Why nana? am not a part of the family. Mi nuh want to seem like seh mi a intrude" I said to her a little surprise.
" Chile stop yuh nonsense, yuh like mi own granddaughter, all though yuh not, mi love yuh just de same" she said with tenderness in her voice
" Alright nana, if you insist, yuh nuh when yuh talk like this yuh know seh mi caa refuse" I said to her with a sigh of defeat.
"So when is the event" I ask her continuing to eat my food.
" well the the event a tek place round the 4:00pm tomorrow , so finish up yuh food and go sleep" she said
We finishing eating our food, I helped nana wash the plates and put them away. Then I went to the bathroom and had a cool nice shower, got dress in my night gown and went to bed wondering what nana children are like and what the out come going to be like.

The next morning, I got up feeling fresh and well rested, I always feel like this when am at nana's house; it's always refreshing to be in a house that don't smell like alcohol, weed and cigarettes. I Went to the bathroom there I brush my teeth and wash my face and twist my hair to keep it in place. I went to my room and change out of my night gown and put on my old yard clothes. I didn't have work today but that doesn't mean I don't have chores in the house to do, which I don't mind doing. Nana always like her house clean even when everywhere is already spik and spang there is always something to do. I grab the yard broom and begin to sweep the front yard.
"Morning cherry blossom, mi see seh yuh wake up early today" nana said standing at the front of the door with a teacup in her hand
"Morning nana, yeah mi wake up fresh dis morning and mi see seh yuh nah up yet so mi decide fi start the house work" I said to her sweeping up the last patch of leaves and putting it inside the garbage.
"Ahh mi Pickney, mi nuh feel so bright dis morning" she said sound a little tired. Now that am looking at her she look a little bit tired too.
"Nana why don't yuh nuh just go back a bed and let me do the house work today" I said coming to her side and leading her back to her room.
"Yuh sure you alone can do all this work?" She ask.
"Yes nana you just go back and get some more rest and leave it to me. Yuh sure yuh can go to yuh family reunion today." I ask her starting to worry a bit about her.
" don't worry so much, just need a little more rest and mi will be fine" she said. I led her back to her room, I helped her to lay down and kissed her on her cheek. I finish up the house work and check in on nana; she was already up and about cleaning her room and picking out her dress that I assume she was going to wear for the reunion.
" You look much better now nana" I said
" yes mi dear, the herbs that I put drink this morning really help  me a lot" she said as she continues going though her dresses in her closet.
" Alright nana, mi a go look fi what to wear"  I said leaving her
" alright" she muttered
The day went fast and be time I knew it was time for us to get ready.
I took a shower and got dress. Luckily I had plan to stay with for a while so I pack my church dress which i thought was perfect for the occasion. It was a dark blue floral dress and my dark blue flats to match , I pull out my twist out and puff my roots to give my hair some more volume. Putting on a light lip gloss on my lips, some mascara on my eyelashes and I put on my hoops earrings. I looked decent enough I though examine my self in the mirror.
" Yuh ready yet" nana shout by the door
" yess nana" I said coming out of my room
" wow!! Mi child yuh look beautiful" nana said looking me up and down with approval.
" thanks nana, you look good too" I said she had worn a light blue polka dot dress with a light blue flats and her hair was flat iron done with light blue flower on the side. She wore some gorgeous pearls to complete her outfit.
