It is a warm and quiet night, the moon and the stars shine brightly across the sky. I jerk awake suddenly, the silence quickly replaced with the sound of my scream tearing through the room. Tears stream freely down my cheeks as I’m caught in my moment of panic. My fingers twist around my locket, pressing it to my pale chest. I gasp, trembling, sitting up and trying to catch my breath. I glance out the window. No not again. The door to my room swung open making a loud bang as it crashed into the wall, I look over, a tall young man runs into the room, and he always does when the nightmares return.
“W-Warrin?” I stutter silver eyes softening a bit at the sight of him. He rushes to my side and smiles kindly.“Are you okay?” he asks softly, voice barely above a whisper, hazel eyes looking into my own. His wavy brown hair falling in his face. “Yes.” I mutter. “I-I think so” I close my eyes trying not to give too much away. My dark hair fell in front of my face. He sits on the bed, moving my black bangs away from my face, to see my eyes. His eyes are drawn to the thin, pale scar across my forehead. He traces it with his thumb.
“Are you sure?” He asks uncertainly. “You haven’t slept well in a while.” I look up into his eyes and say I’m fine once again, trying to reassure him. He gives me a look I know all too well. He’s worried. He shakes his head, not convinced. “Warrin….” I trail off beginning to cry softly. I don’t want him to know I’m not okay, far from it actually, but he already knows. He always knows. I can’t hide it from him, I never can. He knows me too well. He quickly puts his lips to my forehead, holding me until I can calm down. He rubs small circles on my back.
“It’s okay. It’s alright” he whispers over and over. When I finally calm down enough to look up at him he simply smiles softly. “Come on.” he says. “You need to sleep.” We lay down, his arms around me as if to protect me from this world and the next. I lay my head on his shoulder. “I will protect you.” he promises as I drift into sleep. “The nightmares can’t come. I won’t let them”
