First day of fourth grade, and I was already late for the school bus. My name is Lianne Marie Gomez, and I'm nine years old. "LiA!!!!" yells my mom from the kitchen upstairs. "DiD YOU MiSS THE BUS?!" "Um.. no.." I lie, and I rush out the door like the bus just arrived. "Man, now I have to walk." I say, running out of my yard, into the street, and around the corner so my mother doesn't see that I had missed the bus.
Finally, I arrive at school, but I'm late for class. "Lia--" she gets interrupted by me bursting into the room. "I'M HEREEEE!" I yell, probably louder than necessary. "Hush Lianne, or you'll have to go to the principal's office again," and right then, I noticed a few kids in my class were snickering, and the others just stared. I slipped into the closest empty seat near the door, and I put my bookbag down next to my desk, as Mrs.Carter continues to take attendance. "Alexis L.?" she says. "Here." "Summer A.?" "Yup." "Alyssa M.?" "Hereee." and so on. Once attendance was finished, the announcements came on. "Gooood morning Banneker Bulldogs! Today is day one in expressive arts. The following busses were great on the bus platform: Bus 18, Bus 32, and Bus 44. You guys can do better than that! Lets try to make that list longer tomorrow..." blares the intercom, as I get myself situated in my seat.
After school, I pack up my bookbag with my homework and books, and head home. On the way home, something unusual happened. A girl from my class walked up to me, and stood infront of me blocking my way and causing me to stop. "Hey, I'm Alexis! Remember? From school?" she says with a friendly smile. I step backwards a few, and say nonshalantly, "Um..yeah..I'm Lianne.." I reply, wondering why she'd want to talk to me out of everyone else.
