A few weeks later, on a Saturday, you're approached by Hermione Granger on your way back to the Hufflepuff dormitory after breakfast. You were on your way to get ready for the Quidditch match today between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff.

The bushy-haired girl asks if she has your name right breathlessly, looking as if she'd just been running.

"Um, yes." You reply, surprised that the girl was speaking to you. Most people had been avoiding you ever since the Valentine's Day incident. "Did you need something?"

"It's just, I know you're friends with Justin Finch-Fletchley-" Your eyes widen at the mention of your friend. "So you have a special interest in discovering the source of the petrification." You nod enthusiastically, and the Gryffindor continues. "Follow me then, I need someone to help me find something in the library."

The two of you make a mad dash to the library, the excitement you had about seeing your house play in a match completely gone from your mind. All you were thinking about now was finding information that could help Justin.

"I'm looking for anything that mentions a creature that has the power to petrify. I have a hunch, but I need proof. That's why I need your help." Hermione instructs you as she gathers a pile of dusty books that all have something like 'monsters' or 'serpents' in the title.

"Of course, thank you for thinking of me." You reply humbly, reaching out for the book at the top of the pile, titled 'Encyclopedia of Serpents, the Magical and the Cursed'. The two of you study for several hours, frantically flipping through page after page.

Suddenly, you hear a strange hissing sound from behind you.

"I've got it!" Hermione exclaims, grinning broadly as she reads a page from a dusty leather-bound book.

"H-Hermione..." You stutter. "I think there's something behind us-"

Your new friend goes pale and lowers her voice as she rips the page she was looking at out of her book, wincing at the act of vandalism. "Whatever you do, don't look-" She stops suddenly, her gaze stuck on the window in front of you. Without thinking, you follow her eyes. The last thing you remember is a horrifying sight in the window, the reflection of two great yellow eyes right behind you and Hermione. Then everything goes black.

Draco's Point of View

♛♛♛

Draco sits in the Slytherin stands at the quidditch pitch, waiting impatiently for the match to get started. "I don't even understand why Gryffindor still gets to play after I won the match for Slytherin." He complains to Crabbe and Goyle beside him, who blankly nod in agreement.

He rolls his eyes as the crowd cheers when Gryffindor enters the field. His annoyance is short-lived, however, when suddenly Professor McGonagall enters the field with a giant purple megaphone.

"The match has been cancelled." She says solemnly, eliciting an angry uproar from the stands. The Gryffindor team seems to be protesting this, but she ignores them and continues. "All students are to make their way back to the House common rooms, where their Heads of Houses will give them more information."

Looking on the scene with silver binoculars, Draco notices McGonagall say something to Potter and starts leading him off the field, along with Weasley. Raising a brow, he realizes that your friends Abbott and Macmillan are also in tow. A sense of dread comes over him as he shoots up out of his seat, glaring at Crabbe and Goyle who haven't moved.

"Are you dunderheads deaf?" He spits, yanking on both of their collars to force them up. "Let's go." He roughly lets go of them before rushing out of the stands and towards the dungeons.
