Chapter 5

(Sakuta pov)

Sakuta was in a train coming back home with nothing but sorrow for leaving his friends, his station arrives and he hops onto his bike going back towards his apartment. He arrives and goes to his bed

(Flashback- By the way this was in vol 7 of Bunny girl and I am disappointed it wasn't in the anime)

(3rd pov)

Sakuta was completely unable to understand what the doctor had said.

Doctor: We've tried our best......but regrettably

This wasn't the case of being unable to hear properly. Out of the operating room, a male physician, who looked to be around 45 years old, spoke with clear articulation. Although the volume wasn't too loud, the echo still faintly enveloped the quiet late night hospital.

What did you......just say......"

A hoarse voice, the sound of the subconscious mind requesting for a confirmation.

However, the male physician wearing a dark blue surgical gown did not answer. That is of course due to the doctor not talking too much.

A long-haired woman in her forties, dressed in an expensive suit, her hand held the face of Mai.

To be precise, it was still the woman wearing the expensive suit listening to doctor's instructions. She is Mai's biological mother. Despite only seeing her once, the reason why Sakuta had remembered this was undoubtedly because the two looked very much alike to each other.

Mai's Mother: My daughter, Mai......she's really......already......

The words spoken from the mouth of Mai's mother served as a confirmation of the doctor's response.

Doctor: When delivered here, it was already too late

The male physician deeply bowed.

Sakuta couldn't understand what the doctor is saying. Even though he knew the doctor is speaking in Japanese, he can't understand the meaning. Both his body and mind refused to comprehend or accept it.

All of the outside sounds gradually drifted away, with only a rumbling noise left in his eardrums. Just that ringing noise was left there. In such a world, his body felt dizzy, the sense of balance was lost, even front and back became indistinguishable. There was only being able to endure watching the small vantage point in front.

The next a moment, a sharp pain circulated through his cheeks.

The semi-aware consciousness was pulled back as the crisp sound of a slap was heard.

Mai's Mother: Give me Mai back!

Accompanied by that anguished wail, it stirred up emotions marked by hatred. Those eyes are crying. Even though not a single tear had fallen, Sakuta felt like crying upon seeing that.

Then for a second and third time, the sounds of a slap resounded in the corridor. It was already too late to realise that the initial pain was also caused by a slap.

Mai's Mother: Give Mai......give her back to me!

Another slap to the face.

He was too powerless dodge, let alone respond.

Nurse: Please wait, you need to calm down

The physician and nurse intervened to pull Mai's mother back.
