I looked around and sighed in relief when I saw Peter, Wendy and Addie to my left. At least Trevor and I weren't lost in the forest alone. But, all of us were lost in the forest. And none of us knew where to go. "Sadie, where did everybody go?" Addie asked innocently. Tears started to well up in my eyes, but I fought them away and hugged her.
"We're lost." I said, almost choking on my tears. She hugged me, which was actually really comforting. The leaves crunched beneath my feet. "Well, I guess-" I cut myself short when I saw a cloaked figure among the trees. I blinked again and it was gone.
My eyes scoured the dark forest, looking for the figure. I pulled Addie closer to me, and Peter did the same thing to Wendy. Even though I was alarmed, I rolled my eyes at them. So oblivious. I turned around, hoping to see the bus, but it was long gone. I sighed, fear forming a lump in my throat.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and looked up to see Trevor pointing westward. "I-I think I just saw someone over there..." he said, slightly shaking.
"Then let's go this way." I pointed east and we started to walk.
Every snap of a branch or crunch of leaves made us jump. Seconds turned into minutes and minutes turned into hours. Soon, we came across a clearing.
"Guys, we should stop here. It's already getting dark, and we probably have no chance of finding our class; they would be back at the hotel by now." I said. Everyone agreed and put their backpacks now. 'We'll take turns watching around while the other three people are sleeping." Peter proclaimed.
I would be the second to last person to be the guard, so I tried to fall asleep. After much tossing and turning, I finally did.
I was all alone in a dark forest, and the hairs on the back of my neck were raised. Someone was following me. I began to run, and footsteps behind me became audible. I slipped behind a large tree and saw a person in a black cloak run past. Breathing hard, I scrambled out from behind the tree and ran in the opposite direction to where I was running before.
Suddenly, a hand grasped my neck and shoved me against the nearest tree. It was the black cloaked figure. The person sneered. "Don't you realize how easy it was to blend in? To trick all of you weak children? Now, I'm going to have to extract your power and kill you." I looked at the person with mortified eyes and tried to squirm away.
The figure let go of me, but I still could not move. They aimed a gun at my heart, then shot. My vision went white.
I shot up from the ground, breathing hard. Trevor was trying to get me to my feet, and I weakly did so. "Sadie, we have to go now. Peter just spotted Mr. Nobody, or whoever it is, standing behind a tree."
My eyes widened, and my breathing became more ragged. Trevor scooped me up and started to run.
"Wait! Where's Addie?" I screamed. Trevor pointed to Wendy and I sighed in relief.
I eased myself out of Trevor's arms, telling him that I could walk by myself.
Fueled by fear, we all ran.
