Marlene's P.O.V

Today is the day.

Today is the day I prove my worth to Mr. Styles and Styles Inc. and most importantly to Harry. Ever since I was employed to work for him, it was all I was worried about. I may understand that I was employed out of the blue without due process but his father had that much faith in me to not say no to my uncle and send me out of his company's building. He even asked me to come on the trip and help prepare for this important merger.

I was always worried that Harry saw me as this weak and incompetent person even when he tried to break me down so many times and still counting. Last night was just a preface of what he had to see about me to change his stereotype about me.

To prove that further, I woke up really early and started getting myself ready for the first most important meeting I will attend in my career.

I decided to go with a classic all-black ensemble paired with pearl accessories. My hair was done in an elegant sleek back bun. My makeup was very minimal and with a subtle red lip. I didn't want to be the centre of attention and I hoped that Harry's charm and good looks would overshadow my effort. I picked up my brand new Louis Vuitton bag that I got while shopping with Chase yesterday.

Thinking of Chase brought a smile to my face and I remember the texts we shared last night. Speaking of, I haven't checked my phone yet...

From: Chase 😎

From the short time we've spent I can def tell you're smart as hell.

Hullo?

You there?

Aish, you must be asleep. Goodnight Marlene 😌

"Gosh, I fell asleep," I muttered and mentally facepalmed myself. I shook my head and made a mental note to text him later. As if on cue, a knock came from the door. I took all the necessities and put on my favourite cologne and went out from my room to come in contact with a very ready Harry. I'd be lying if I said he didn't look exquisite. Good for us though.

"Good morning Mr. Styles," I said as I adjusted my feet in my Louboutins.

"Likewise, Ms. Walters," he says and I swear I see a faint tug of his lips to the side to what would have been a smirk. Oh wow.
"We should be making our way to the lobby now, if you don't mind," he says and looks at his Cartier watch.

"Yes ofcourse," I smile and lead the way out of our suite to the elevator. The ride down is not that awkward but traces of it are here and there. I guess we are too busy with our nerves to acknowledge it.

The doors ding open and we walk briskly out to the lobby where the executives are already waiting. I doubt it has been long though by the smile on Mr. Styles' face.

"There you guys are! I was hoping we would have to send someone up there to get you," he says in hopes of lifting the obviously nervous atmosphere.

"We would never do that Sir," I reply with a reassuring smile. Our arrival prompts our departure to our designated vehicles and we are well on our way.

The ride to Iverson Inc. was undoubtedly filled with tension and it was worse since Harry and his father were sitting beside each other. I was afraid the one might say something to the other that would spark some outrage and hence I kept my fingers crossed and made silent prayers for a successful outing.

In my life, I have come to know and learn that there are certain things that we really shouldn't have wishful thinking about and I just on the verge of having one right now when Harry's father turns his head to the side to look at him and I know just then that I just did.
