In celebration of spoopy season, I'm going to attempt to write a creepy story!

Don't get your hopes up, do get your apple cider out

-

I don't remember when I fell asleep, but I woke up in my bed.
Shifting in my fluffy bedsheets, I turned to check the alarm clock on my wooden bedside table, next to my charging cellphone.

3:46 AM

Ugh. Why am I awake again?

My stomach growled angrily, answering my rhetorical question.
I sighed internally, and hesitantly left the comfort of my warm bed, making my way across my carpeted bedroom floor to the smooth door.
I opened it, very slowly and quietly as to not wake up my sister in the room across from mine, and tiptoed down the hallway to the kitchen, hearing the fridge hum quietly well before I got there.

As I got to the middle of the hallway, I heard one of the wooden floorboards creak and winced at how loud it sounded in comparison to the near silence.

Crap, did I wake her?

I froze for a moment, carefully listening for any change in the quiet sound of deep breaths coming from my sister's room.
I heard some quiet clattering coming from the bathroom ahead of me as our cat knocked some things around, but nothing changed with the slow breathing.

I continued, and slowly opened the white fridge to grab a snack. I see an apple and grab it, deciding that the microwave was too loud to reheat the leftovers from dinner.

As I munched on the cold apple, I felt a furry warmth gently weave itself around my ankles as our cat, clearly bored with knocking the shampoo over, decided it was snacktime for him too. The orange cat meowed up at me as I gently push him away with one foot.

"Shh. No, burgerpants. We don't want you getting any chonkier."

He looked up at me with his big green eyes, and just meowed again.
I look down at him open my mouth to reply, but then I hear the same clattering noise from earlier, when he was messing with the shampoo.
Except.. he's right in front of me and I have one cat.
I can still hear my sister, now snoring lightly.

I quickly forget about the half eaten apple, and as burgerpants runs off to investigate the noise he obviously heard too, I follow him as quietly as I can. I grab a nearby vase on the way, and try to formulate some kind of plan, with my non threatening weapon.

Someone's in the house. Oh god, I left my phone on my nightstand. It's fine, you're fine, they don't know you're here. They're in the bathroom, between me and my room, which means I have to sneak through the hallway. The hallway in the old house with creaky floorboards.

I try to keep my breathing slow, steady, and silent as I tiptoe very slowly past the bathroom door.
I see burgerpants, who had been at my ankles this entire time, suddenly rush into the bathroom before I can react, through the small cat door. I hear the clattering speed up, followed by a screech that's abruptly cut off by a sickening crunch.
Followed by another.

OH GOD. OH GOD. OH GOD.

It's all I can do to not run away as fast as I can, so I'm not surprised when the slurping and crunching noises come to a sudden halt.
The silence is even worse, because it's not silent at all. I can hear my quick breathing and muffled sobs, and my sister's continuous snoring. I'm glad she's a deep sleeper.

The bathroom door slowly opens with a creak worthy of a horror movie, and I don't wait.
Adrenaline and terror pumping through my veins, I run as fast as I can down the hallway, trying to get to my smooth, white door.
I try to open it, and get slammed into it hard enough that I feel it bend and crack a little.
My breaths are incredibly fast, adrenaline is pumping through my veins, the only thing I can hear is my heartbeat as this thing leans over me, pinning me to my bedroom door with incredible strength. I drop the vase and hear it shatter loudly.

NOT A HUMAN NOT A HUMAN NOT A HUMAN NOT A HUMAN NOT A HUMAN

Towering above me is this pitch black.. thing. Its body is shifting like it's melting, but that's just wishful thinking. It stands on two pencil thin legs, and holds you down with four large hands, which remind you of bat wings without the webbing but stronger. It has a huge grin, and though it looks like it's melting, the only liquid falling is thick red blood with clumps of ginger fur as a large mouth filled with yellow and red teeth smiles down at you. At its new meal.

The last thing you see is the glint of yellowed but still shiny teeth, and a pair of deep yellow orbs with blood red centers.
The last thing you think is

I don't think my door is white anymore.

Before you shoot up in bed, breathing heavily.

Wh- h- what the HELL was that!?

I look around in a panic and see burgerpants, napping peacefully on my desk chair. My bedside table with my alarm clock and phone on it.

4:24 AM

It was a dream? It was a dream!

I breathe a sigh of relief, and gently rub my chest with the palm of my hand to try and calm my heartbeat.
Still not being sure, I get up from my warm bed, and cross my carpeted bedroom floor to the chair burgerpants is in.
I gently touch his soft exposed belly, and he chirps slightly and curls in on himself, not waking up.

I chuckle in amusement and relief that he feels real.
I quietly leave my room, and walk down the hallway to the kitchen, noticing the bathroom door wide open and a completely empty bathroom behind it.
Checking the fridge, I see the apple I had supposedly eaten, completely untouched.

Now convinced it was a dream, and calmed, I head back down the hallway.
I yawn and cover my mouth slightly as I avoid stubbing my toe on the small table the vase sits on.
Who knew nightmares could be so exhausting?
I hear my sister snoring lightly, and quietly enter my room with a smile on my face, closing the dented and cracked white door behind me.

The end! What do you think? :)

I really shouldn't have written this right before trying to sleep, as someone who got creeped out by looking for a picture to put at the top.

Hope you liked it! Happy Halloween.

Shut up, I know it's the middle of September.

Spooky season.
