Chapter one ~ Leaving

As I dragged the blade across my skin, I begged myself not to let out a loud cry. I heard banging on the bathroom door, followed by the cries of "open up! I need in there!" I quickly recollected myself and slid the blade back in it's hiding spot and pulled down the sleeves of my old sweatshirt and wiped the tears from my cheeks. I took a deep breath and looked in the mirror and smiled. I opened the door to see ashley, the girl who just came here today. To this hell hole called foster care.

She wasn't much younger than me, maybe 12 or 13. I kindly smiled at her and walked out of her way. I hear the door shut behind me.

"Katie" drew, the youngest child called out. He was my favorite, yet he had probably the worst story of all nine
of us. He was beat within an inch of his life by his drunken ass father and left on the side of the road by his drug addict mother, and was found a week later. He was lucky to be alive.

"Yeah?" I asked him.

"Miss tanner wants to see you" he replied.

"Okay, sweetie" I replied sweetly. He gave me a quick hug around the waist and skipped away. He was really happy for an 8 year old with a story like his. 'Oh god' I thought 'what does she want from me this time' last time I was in her office, I received a beating for not doing the dishes properly. I shuttered at the thought.

"Miss tanner?" I asked cautiously, slowly opening her office door "I was told you wanted to see me?"

"Ahh yes" she replied. "I have some news"

"Okay?" I questioned, stepping closer to her desk.

"You might wanna sit down for this" she said. I sat my butt in the chair behind me. "It seems that a family would like to adopt you..."

I wasn't sure how to react. So I just sat there with my mouth making an "O" I was shocked. "You will be leaving to meet them Saturday and your last day here at the tanner house will be Sunday" she added. I was very shocked. I was feeling overwhelmed with emotions. I was happy that id finally be leaving. I was shocked that anyone would want me. I was sad because id have to leave Drew behind. I was exited to meet them. I was scared to meet them. I was overjoyed to leave Logan, and all the horrible things that he did to me behind. I didn't know what to feel.

My thoughts were interrupted by miss tanners voice. "You may leave now katie." She sneered.

I nodded my head and walked out of the office. I quickly looked throughout the house in search of my best friend, Lauren. I found her sitting on her iphone. "Lauren!" I squealed. "Guess what?" She looked up at me and half heartedly asked what I was so exited about. "I'm leaving" I told her. She stopped scrolling through her instagram feed and looked dead into my eyes. "What" she asked, clearly as shocked as I was. I could just smile. She just sat there with a death glare. "Aren't you happy!?" I asked. My happiness was beginning to fade away. "Happy?" She began. "Well yeah I'm happy, katie. Your my best friend. And I know your going through a lot and I want you to be happy, but it's kinda hard when your the only one here for me. I have no one but you." Tears were gathering in her eyes.

I pulled her into a tight hug. She let out a quiet sob. "I'll have no one to talk to about you know what" she whispered. I knew what she wa talking about. I was the only one in the house who knew about her eating disorder. And in exchange, she was the only one who knew about my self harm problem. "Well work something out" I promised and nodded. I was interuppted by the loud voice of miss tanner yelling for everyone to meet in the kitchen. As soon as everyone was gathered, she began. "Everyone" she started, "I would like you to all know that someone is going to be leaving us here shortly." She looked at me. "And by shortly I mean in 3 days."
