IN WHICH clara hulsey falls for a girl who she knows will never like her back

CLARA WAS NEVER ONE TO BE BRAVE. She had always been the kindhearted quiet girl who let everyone else decide things for her. And with her group of friends, that happened quite often. To others, her choice in friends may seem kinda poor because all her friends were rude, judgemental, and lived for gossip, but it's not like she had any other choice. It's not like everyday the most popular girls (ironically, all the girls) at her school asked the shy quiet girl to join their group. Even though they were very stuck up, Clara stuck with them because she'd rather have the rude girls as friends then have none. But, there was another reason why she stayed with them, namely one Ruby Gillis, the girl she'd been head over heels with for years. Although she never experienced the girl to love her back, because she only had eyes for someone else.
BUT EVERYTHING CHANGES WHEN A CERTAIN EXTROVERTED REDHEAD COMES AND TURNS AVONLEA ON ITS HEAD. Anne Shirley was like a flood, erasing everything only to regrow it to make it better. Many of the people of Avonlea didn't like Anne because there was nothing scarier than a girl with big ideas. Suddenly, everything was changing and Clara realized that she didn't need to be ashamed of her feelings or hide them anymore. Avonlea was starting to change and Clara was changing with it.
so why shouldn't she be able to profess her love for the girl she adores ?

- tbh , this plot was kinda rushed , i really only had a basic idea for this and it was just gay pining
- idk whether ruby is a strawberry blonde or not but at first i thought she was so we're just going with that
- ok for actual plot notes now
- so clara struggles a lot with internalized homophobia during the fic and even though she's in love with ruby , she still struggles with accepting her feelings for her
- awae is set in the 1890's so remember that a lot of things like racism and homophobia were very normalized back then , the show does tackle these topics but just make sure to keep this in mind !
- i really don't see this fic being fluffy ( as much as i love fluff ) it's very much unrequited love
- but if u really wanna have them get together , u could do a slow burn where clara tells ruby about her feelings for her ( mid-season 2 ? ) i don't really have a specific episode in mind
- but anyways clara is rejected and is kicked out of the group and becomes closer with anne and cole
- continuing the slow burn , around s3 , we could have ruby realize her growing feelings for clara and by the last two episodes , she kissed her
- or or OR , you could go a completely different path and show clara slowly getting over ruby and perhaps catching feelings for another girl?
- the girl i had in mind would be another oc who would be a newcomer, maybe her parents died and her grandma lives in avonlea so she comes to stay with her?
