I awoke the next morning to a loud knock on the door. The bed was empty but it still smelled faintly of Louis' cologne from the night before.
"Heather! You need to get up!" Nina shouted from outside. I opened the door, wrapped in only the bedsheet. She pushed past me, already dressed for the day, holding two cups of coffee and a paper bag in her hands. The pleasant soreness between my legs twinged as I walked to the bathroom and slipped into the shower, leaving the door open so I could still talk to Nina.
"I know you had a big night, trust me, I know. I honestly wish I could clean my ears out. But you need to hurry." I could hear Nina rifling around the room, and as I got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around myself, she appeared in the doorway holding up two blouses. A loose white one, and a tight grey one.
"Which one?" She asked, raising a single eyebrow. I smiled and grabbed the white one out of her hands. After I slipped on a bra and a fresh pair of underwear, I pulled the shirt over my head and tucked it into a tight, black business skirt that fell to just below my knees. Slipping my feet into some small black heels, I turned to Nina.
"Good?"
Nina shook her head, handing me an eyebrow pencil, some light foundation, and a tube of mascara, as well as a tube of my favourite red lipstick. While I got to work on my make-up, Nina fixed my hair into a low, wavy ponytail.
Once we were done, she handed me the coffee and paper bag, as well as my handbag and practically pushed me out the door.
"Don't forget you're getting a taxi back to campus after work! I'll make sure all your stuff gets back to the dorm. Have fun!"
And with that, I stepped into the hotel elevator and took a sip of my coffee, ready for the day to come.
--------------------
I stood before the skyscraper, mouth open in awe. The paper bag with a bagel inside was like a dead-weight in my hands. I don't think I'd ever been so intimidated by a building in my life. But I took a deep breath and pushed through the glass doors.
Immediately, I was greeted by the sight of white marble and gold accents, beautiful art adorned the walls.
"Excuse me, ma'am? Welcome to Harvey's Talent Agency, how can I help you today?" I turned to find a petite older woman by my side. She gave me a smile and I instantly felt a little less nervous.
"Hi, I'm Heather," I held out my hand to her, my rosey-pink acrylic nails shining softly. "I'm from Statham University, I'm here for the secretary internship."
"Oh, of course! You must be Miss Heather Bailey. Well, I'm Betty and I'll be your supervisor. Come put your bag in the staffroom then I'll take you to meet your boss."
After Betty introduced me to some other employees while in the staffroom, she led me upstairs and into a waiting area. She then disappeared for a few minutes and I was left to sit in silence. I was nervous about meeting the boss, what if they didn't like me? When Betty finally returned, my palms were sweaty and my knees trembled.
"Mr. Tomlinson will see you now," Betty said with a smile, opening a set of large, dark wooden doors for me.
When those doors shut behind me, my heart stopped in my chest. For there, across the room, sitting behind a large desk in the centre of the room where I expected my boss to be... was Louis.
