OKAY!!

hear me out but what if -

Nightmare was Asylum!tale sans?

what if he lost him memory's after his own multiverse collapsed and like a lucky few survived and ended up in a new multiverse

the plot basically goes like this

Nightmares worlds collapse as the balance shifts, everyone falls into the void, and at a price pay with there memories in order to survive

or rather there forms, like nightmare since he was in his corrupt form all the time, but it's not fully gone, just suppressed like his memory

the void eventually spits him out in a random au after registering his coding as a sans, so obviously it places him in a world where the sans has died or glitches out completely, this is to insure that the AU survives

eventually the papyrus of that world, or rather gaster finds him thinking Nightmare was his,

the whole role spill goes on, leading to papyruses death and 'sanses' insanity

but after they get to the asylum the negative energy from many of the staff and patients slowly recovers his memories, and in turn he gets a split personality because both halves refuse to merge together again

so now his corruption must learn there situation while adjusting to this new multiverse

but the thing is, nightmare is very mischievous, and since no one knows who he really is he feels that he can get away with more then just a few pranks to cause a bit of misery to get stronger
